Mason received her degrees in Anthropology and Chinese at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University. She taught Chinese at the University of Durham until 1995. She now works as a professional translator while teaching part-time at Durham and at the University of Newcastle.

May studied English literature in London and taught English in China from 1980 to 1982. She has collaborated on several Chinese translations , including Yu Luojin's A Chinese Winter's Tale, and two martial arts novels of the Hong Kong novelist Louis Cha. She also worked as a literary editor and produced A Birthday Book for Brother Stone, a volume commemorating the 80th birthday of her father the sinologist David Hawkes.

McClellan is Senior Lecturer in Chinese at the University of Edinburgh, where he did his first degree in Chinese and a PhD on Zhang Henshui's fiction. His teaching and research centre on 20th-century popular, populist and 'pure' fiction, as well as a range of May Fourth and contemporary literary writing.

McDougall was Research Professor in Translation and Acting Director of the Research Centre for Translation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Emeritus Professor of Chinese at the University of Edinburgh at the time of publication. Her translations include works by Bei Dao, Ah Cheng, Chen Kaige and Zhu Guangqian.

Minford is a sinologist and literary translator. He is known for his translation of Chinese classics such as The Story of the Stone and The Art of War. He also translated Louis Cha's The Deer and the Cauldron and a selection of Pu Songling's Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.

Mok received her BA, MA and PhD from the University of Hong Kong, specialising in the study of Tang poetry. She lectured on translation and interpreting for many years in the Department of Translation, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Ng is the bestselling author of Hong Kong State of Mind and No City for Slow Men. His work Umbrellas in Bloom is the first book in English to chronicle the Umbrella Movement and the last instalment of a Hong Kong trilogy that tracks the city's post-colonial development. He also contributes to The Guardian and Hong Kong Free Press as a columnist. He also served as the president of PEN Hong Kong from 2016 until 2019.

Paul M. H. Or received his Bachelor of Social Science and MA in Translation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has worked as a government translator for over ten years.

Osing is a poet who taught in the Creative Writing Programme at Memphis State University and directed the River City Writer Series, which he founded in 1977. His poems and co-translations from the Chinese have appeared in numerous journals and literary magazines including The Southern Review and The New Yorker. His books include Crossing Against the Sun: After Two Years in Central China and Hong Kong, The Water Radical and Apo/Calpyso: Lakeside in Delta Bluffs Woods, a Four Years' Dao in the Blues.

Pan's translations have been published in the anthology CityPoetry 2001: Poetry, Documentation, Essays.

Born in 1937 in England, Parkin received his BA and MA in English from the University of Cambridge. His PhD in Drama is from Bristol University. He has published several academic books, numerous essays, and two books of poetry, Dancers in a Web and Yokohama Days, Kyoto Knights. He took up the Chair of English at the Chinese University in 1991, where he is a Fellow of Shaw College and University Orator. He is the founder president of the Association for Canadian Studies in Hong Kong.

Born in Australia, Pattison received his PhD from the Australian National University and was awarded an Australian Government scholarship to study in China between 1985 and 1988. He worked in the Department of Translation at Lingnan University in Hong Kong from 1992 to 1999, where he translated a number of Chinese works into English for the magazine Renditions . He is now teaching in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Leeds.

Born in Australia in 1961, Patton received his PhD from Melbourne University. He currently works as a freelance literary translator and teaches Chinese language and translation at the University of Queensland. He also co-edits the China domain of Poetry International Web with the Chinese poet Yu Jian.

Pollard served as Professor of Chinese at the University of London from 1978 to 1988 and Professor of Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1988 to 1997. He has written extensively on modern Chinese language and literature as well as on aspects of translation. Among his translations are The True Story of Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren: Selected Essays.

Poon studied translation at the University of Hong Kong and received her MA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her translations include Chinese Ceramic Pillows: the Mr and Mrs Yeung Wing Tak Gift and Chinese Archaic Jades from the Kwan Collection. She also translated the two stories “Watching the Sea” by Chan Po Chun and “The Ghost Festival“ by Xin Qi Shi published in Hong Kong Collage, ed. Martha Cheung.

Raine received her PhD in Translation Studies at City University of Hong Kong and worked as an editor and translator for various publications. She was Assistant Professor at the Department of Translation, Lingnan University from 2007 to 2016.

Robson is Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Beloit College. She teaches all levels of Chinese language studies and Chinese calligraphy. Besides publishing research in the areas of modern Chinese linguistics, she has also served as a simultaneous interpreter and regularly translates Chinese texts into English.

Sheung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics at City University of Hong Kong. He received an MA in Linguistics from Reading University in 1986 and an MA in Literary Studies from the University of Hong Kong in 1991. He has published in the American Journal of Semiotics and Language International.

Born in Hong Kong in 1935, Sham published his first book at the age of twenty. He has founded a number of literary magazines since 1950s. His publications include the award-winning poetry collection《詩大調》[Poetry Major] and the English novel Killing the Angel.

Fong So is a journalist-turned artist living and working in Hong Kong. He was an editor of a current affairs magazine before turning to art. His works have been exhibited in Hong Kong, South Korea, the UK and the USA. Despite his training in traditional Chinese painting and the media of brush and ink, both the content and the genre of his work are obviously different from those of traditional Chinese painting.

Solomon is Professor in the Department of Chinese Literature, University of Lyon (Jean Moulin Lyon 3). His publications have focused on the biopolitics of translation, developing a critique of the disciplinary divisions of the Humanities in their relation to the economic and political divisions of the postcolonial world.

Song is a poet, translator and editor based in Hong Kong. He has published four collections of poetry and many volumes of poetry in translation. Song received an “Extraordinary Mention” at Italy’s UNESCO-recognized Nosside World Poetry Prize 2013. More recently he won the Young Artist Award at the 2017 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards, presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. He is now Executive Director of the Hong Kong International Poetry Nights and Editor-in-Chief of Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine. He also serves as an Arts Advisor for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

Born in Zhejiang in 1919, Soong received his university education in the mainland before coming to Hong Kong in 1948. He joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1968 and co-founded the Research Centre for Translation and the journal Renditions. He translated a wide range of Western and Chinese literature.

Born in Macao in 1966, Sou is a visual and literary artist, who writes in both Chinese and English. During the 1990s, she wrote mainly drama scripts. Now her major literary works include novels, poems, short stories and poetry translation. As a painter, she has been showing her art works since 2002. One of her recent art project is New Gardens, a collaboration with Martin Zeller. The project combines photography and poetry mounted on Chinese rice paper in scrolls.

Steinhardt studied Arabic and Chinese at Cambridge University and received his MA in 1983. He has worked as a translator, investment consultant, writer and editor in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Cairo.
