Born in Beijing in 1949, Zhao is regarded as one of the most acclaimed Chinese poets in recent years. Exiled from China for his influence on the pro-democracy protests that led up to the Tiananmen Square massacre, he taught in a number of universities in Europe and the United States. He settled in Hong Kong in 2007.

Born in Hong Kong in 1961, Chan obtained his degree from Taiwan's Tunghai University and pursued his postgraduate studies at Lingnan University. He is the founder of the journals 《呼吸詩刊》 [Breathe] and 《詩潮》 [Wave of Poetry], and is currently teaching at the Education University of Hong Kong. His publications include 《解體我城：香港文學1950-2005》(Disintegration of My City : Hong Kong Literature 1950-2005) and 《地文誌：追憶香港地方與文學》(Land and Words : Recollections on Places of Hong Kong and Its Literature).

Born in Hong Kong in 1953, Cheung taught at a number of universities, specialising in Literature and Translation Studies. Her translations of Chinese literature into English include Han Shaogong’s Homecoming? and numerous works of Hong Kong poets such as Leung Ping Kwan. She also co-edited anthologies including An Oxford Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Drama and Hong Kong Collage: Contemporary Stories and Writing.

Chiu is currently teaching General Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has translated a number of works from Chinese into English, including 《追憶與遺忘——對終極的沉思》(Memory and Oblivion: Mediations on Mortality) and 《家-香港公屋四十五年》(From Shelter to Home: 45 Years of Public Housing Development in Hong Kong).

Duke obtained his PhD in Chinese language and literature at U.C., Berkeley, and taught at the University of British Columbia. His publications include Blooming and Contending: Chinese Literature in the Post Mao Era and The Iron House: A Memoir of the Chinese Democracy Movement and the Tiananmen Massacre. He has translated a wide range of literary works, including works of Su Tong.

Goldblatt was Research Professor of Chinese at the University of Notre Dame from 2002 to 2011, and is a prolific translator of modern Chinese fiction, renowned for his translations of the Nobel Laureate Mo Yan, among others. He is the founding editor of the periodical Modern Chinese Literature.

Gordon is editor of the Asian Review of Books. A publisher and entrepreneur, he has been active in technology, culture and international trade and investment. He is the co-author of The Silver Way: China, Spanish America and the Birth of Globalisation, 1565–1815. He has been a resident of Hong Kong since 1985.
