Jason Y. Ng is a Hong Kong-based lawyer, university professor and writer. He is the bestselling author of Hong Kong State of Mind and No City for Slow Men. His latest tome, Umbrellas in Bloom, is the first book available in English chronicling the 2014 Occupy movement.

Born in 1937 in England, Parkin received his BA and MA in English from the University of Cambridge. His PhD in Drama is from Bristol University. He has published several academic books, numerous essays, and two books of poetry, Dancers in a Web and Yokohama Days, Kyoto Knights. He took up the Chair of English at the Chinese University in 1991, where he is a Fellow of Shaw College and University Orator. He is the founder president of the Association for Canadian Studies in Hong Kong.

PEN Hong Kong is one of the 148 centers of PEN International. Founded in 2016, it is a multilingual society of Hong Kong-based writers, poets, publishers, editors, translators, journalists and academics, aimed at promoting literature and defending the freedom of expression in Hong Kong.

Pollard served as Professor of Chinese at the University of London from 1978 to 1988 and Professor of Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1988 to 1997. He has written extensively on modern Chinese language and literature as well as on aspects of translation. Among his translations are The True Story of Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren: Selected Essays.

Mishi Saran was born in India and spent the first 10 years of her life in New Delhi. Since then, she has lived in Switzerland, Indonesia, the United States, China, Hong Kong, and Korea. Following an undergraduate degree in Chinese Studies from Wellesley College, she worked in Hong Kong as a news reporter and as a freelance writer.

Graduated from Syracuse University, Sarah Schaefer has been a writer at various news agencies. She served as one of the executive committees at PEN Hong Kong, where she co-edited an anthology about post-colonial Hong Kong. She is currently Senior Global Digital Editor at the UNHCR.

Song is a poet, translator and editor based in Hong Kong. He has published four collections of poetry and many volumes of poetry in translation. Song received an “Extraordinary Mention” at Italy’s UNESCO-recognized Nosside World Poetry Prize 2013. More recently he won the Young Artist Award at the 2017 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards, presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. He is now Executive Director of the Hong Kong International Poetry Nights and Editor-in-Chief of Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine. He also serves as an Arts Advisor for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council

Born in Zhejiang in 1919, Soong received his university education in the mainland before coming to Hong Kong in 1948. He joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1968 and co-founded the Research Centre for Translation and the journal Renditions. He translated a wide range of Western and Chinese literature.

Tai received her degree in law from the University of Michigan. She practiced law in New York and taught modern Chinese literature at Harvard University before becoming a freelance translator. She is the translator and editor of Spring Bamboo, a collection of Chinese stories in the eighties.

Tam is Professor in the Department of English at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD in comparative literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has published books and articles on modern Chinese literature, comparative studies of the theatre, and Western literary theory.

Wang received his PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has taught at National Taiwan University and Harvard. He was Associate Professor of Chinese Literature in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures of Columbia University at the time of publication.

Nicholas Wong is the author of Crevasse , the winner of Lambda Literary Award in Gay Poetry. He is also the recipient of the Hong Kong Young Artist Award in Literary Arts, Australian Book Review’s Peter Porter Poetry Prize and Renaissance Foundation Prize (Literary Arts). Wong has contributed writing to the radio composition project “One of the Two Stories, Or Both” at Manchester International Festival 2017, and the catalogue of the exhibition “One Hand Clapping” at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Wong received her BA in English Literature from the Baptist University, MA in Cinema Studies from the University of East Anglia, MA in Communication from the University of Leicester and PhD in comparative literature from the University of Hong Kong. Wong used to be the Editor-in-Chief of the Hong Kong Film Archive. She was awarded fellowship to pursue her post-doctoral research at the Chinese Department of the University of Tokyo and was Assistant Professor at Lingnan University at the time of publication. She has written and edited multiple scholarly volumes on cinema and literature, including Hong Kong Cinema and Literature: Writer, Film ad Adaptation.

Xu Xi is co-director of the International MFA in Creative Writing and Translation at Vermont College of Fine Arts, and author of sixteen books, most recently This Fish Is Fowl: Essays of Being, a collection published by University of Nebraska Press in March 2019.

Yip was Professor and Chairperson of the Department of English Language and Literature at Hong Kong Baptist University at the time of publication. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She has published extensively on gender and modern literature.

Born in Hong Kong in 1953, Cheung taught at a number of universities, specialising in Literature and Translation Studies. Her translations of Chinese literature into English include Han Shaogong’s Homecoming? and numerous works of Hong Kong poets such as Leung Ping Kwan. She also co-edited anthologies including An Oxford Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Drama and Hong Kong Collage: Contemporary Stories and Writing. ; Born in Hong Kong, Hung received her doctorate at the University of London. She was the Director of the Research Centre for Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and editor of the literary journal Renditions. She has translated works by Wang Anyi and Eileen Chang into English.
