Synopsis:
The short story, set in Antiques Alley, encapsulates the local market culture. A middle-aged man, who is assumably an expert in antiques, tries to distinguish whether an incense burner is genuine. After four days of struggle, he finally pays for the burner, only to find out a surprising fact.

Biography:
Born in 1935 in Zhejiang, Ni settled in Hong Kong in 1957 after escaping from the CCP government. He has produced over 300 novels in Chinese, mainly dealing with martial arts and science fiction. His best-known works are the Wisely and Dr Yuen Series, which have been adapted into TV series and films.

Translator Biography:
Cohn studied Chinese at Oberlin College and Columbia University. Having lived in Taipei, Beijing and Hong Kong for a long time, he has published translations of Lao She's fiction and The Dianshizhai Pictorial. He worked as an editorial assistant at the Research Centre for Translation, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and as an editor at the Far Eastern Economic Review.

Editor Biography:
Born in Hong Kong, Hung received her doctorate at the University of London. She was the Director of the Research Centre for Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and editor of the literary journal Renditions. She has translated works by Wang Anyi and Eileen Chang into English.
