Continuous Floor Stretcher

Detail: The Continuous Floor Stretcher serves as a foundational element that bolsters the steadiness and robustness of furniture legs. Available in either a circular or square configuration, its assembly technique mirrors that used for connecting straight or cylindrical wooden components. This stretcher offers multifaceted structural benefits: it reinforces support, adds visual harmony, guards against moisture, simplifies replacement, and improves overall comfort for users.

Process: The floor stretcher features four corner mortises designed to receive the tenons on the lower end of the legs. For a square floor stretcher, the leg tenons are carved with a tapered profile—narrower at the top and wider at the bottom. The mortises on the stretcher are shaped to match these tenons, with one side open to allow the tenons to slide in and lock into place. When the wider portion of the tenon meets and aligns with the corresponding section of the mortise, it secures firmly within. Thus, the legs remain anchored to the floor stretcher unless it is intentionally disassembled.
