Middle Qing Period
Square Stool
Ipe (Zitan)
56 × 56.5 × 52.5 cm ×2

  • The seat is masterfully constructed with circular grid mortise and tenon joints, creating an inviting concave surface that gently rises in the center. Stability is ensured by two robust through tenons beneath the seat.
  • The stool's edges are elegantly rounded, culminating in a subtle groove along the lower perimeter. A distinct waist at the midsection gives way to curved side supports at the base, which echo the groove's finesse and display meticulous craftsmanship.
  • Where the apron plates meet the leg corners, the joint is marked by toothed plates that exhibit a standard, large concave design with fluid curves, maintaining a clean, uninterrupted visual flow.
  • The legs are sculpted to curve inward, while their inner sides sweep upward in a horseshoe-like arc, creating a dynamic and sturdy profile. This striking form is harmoniously integrated with the base, designed to support and complement the ceramic elements of the stool.
