Synopsis:
The story depicts how illegal immigrants are smuggled by sea, and the anxiety and risks they experience during the journey. When the male protagonist, Yuan Wen, and his partner, Fan Yuping, embark on the trip, hoping that it would lead them to a bright future, they go through the excitement of arriving at the open sea, as well as the fear and despair of encountering pirates.

Born in Indonesia in 1943, Tao received his secondary and university education in Beijing. After moving to Hong Kong in 1973, he started writing from the perspective of a south-bound writer. He was also the editor of the literary journal 《香港文學》[Hong Kong Literature] and encouraged many young writers to pursue their aspirations.
