This is a chapter from Xin Yuan's novel, Crazy Horse in a Frenzied City, a mock-epic spy story-cum-satirical political farce set in the years before the Handover. In this chapter, Crazy Horse wanders to the boutique run by his former girlfriend. Questions of identity, historical representation, and the notion of hybridity surface in this story with a distinctive difference in tone.
