Synopsis:
A boy is sent to a monastery to become a monk, leading a life of strict discipline and monotony. He always notices some strange phenomena in the abbot’s meditation room while Master Light is in his trance. He can see how Master Light transcends to the realm of an arhat during meditation, and discovers the joy of staying in the monastery.

Biography:
Born in Chongqing in 1945, Chung developed an interest in contemporary poetry while growing up in Taiwan. After receiving her PhD in comparative literature from The University of Wisconsin, she taught at different institutions in the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her publications include the poetry collection《芬芳的海》[Aromatic Ocean] and the translation of Orchid Boat: Women Poets of China. She also taught at a number of institutes in the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan, including Hong Kong Baptist University where she served as chair professor, Dean of Arts and Associate Vice President.

Aili Mu is a Professor of Chinese at Iowa State University. She received her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1996. She teaches courses on Chinese language, translation, Chinese cultural tradition and China today. Her research focuses on Chinese short-short stories. Her published scholarship on the genre has earned her a Franklin R. Buchanan Prize from the Association for Asian Studies (2018).

Goldblatt was Research Professor of Chinese at the University of Notre Dame from 2002 to 2011, and is a prolific translator of modern Chinese fiction, renowned for his translations of the Nobel Laureate Mo Yan, among others. He is the founding editor of the periodical Modern Chinese Literature.
