Synopsis:
The female protagonist quarrels with her husband over the fact that he does not come home on time as he promised, and she goes out after he slaps her. It is a rainy day, which reminds her of their sweet memories before getting married. Just as in many of Chan's stories, the author explores the moral dilemmas confronting women in contemporary society.

Born in Hong Kong in 1953, Chan graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and taught at the Department of Chinese, Hong Kong Baptist University. Her publications include the short story collection 《找房子》[Finding the house] and 《角色的反駁》[Character’s Rebuttal].

Translator Biography:
Wong received her MPhil in English from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and was Administrative Executive at the Hong Kong Productivity Council. She has published articles on modern Chinese literature.

Born in 1937 in England, Parkin received his BA and MA in English from the University of Cambridge. His PhD in Drama is from Bristol University. He has published several academic books, numerous essays, and two books of poetry, Dancers in a Web and Yokohama Days, Kyoto Knights. He took up the Chair of English at the Chinese University in 1991, where he is a Fellow of Shaw College and University Orator. He is the founder president of the Association for Canadian Studies in Hong Kong.

Tam is Professor in the Department of English at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD in comparative literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has published books and articles on modern Chinese literature, comparative studies of the theatre, and Western literary theory.

Yip was Professor and Chairperson of the Department of English Language and Literature at Hong Kong Baptist University at the time of publication. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She has published extensively on gender and modern literature.
