Synopsis:
This is a story about the reunion between the female protagonist, Zhang Jing, and her old friend, Qiu Shuping, from Taiwan. Married to a successful businessman, Qiu seems to live a luxurious life while Zhang is working hard at a travel agency. When they are strolling through the designer shops, Zhang thinks of the old days when they were impoverished students back in Taiwan.

Biography:
Born in Taiwan in 1945, Shi was educated at Tamkang University and City University of New York. She moved to Hong Kong in 1978 and became director of Asian programmes at the Hong Kong Arts Centre. She returned to Taiwan in 1997. Her publications include 《香港三部曲》[Trilogy of Hong Kong] and 《微醺彩妝》(Tipsy Makeup).

Larsen was Associate Professor of English and creative writing at Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia. She is the translator of Brocade River Poems: Selected Works of the Tang Dynasty Courtesan Xue Tao, and the author of Silk Road: A Novel of Eighth Century China.

Duke obtained his PhD in Chinese language and literature at U.C., Berkeley, and taught at the University of British Columbia. His publications include Blooming and Contending: Chinese Literature in the Post Mao Era and The Iron House: A Memoir of the Chinese Democracy Movement and the Tiananmen Massacre. He has translated a wide range of literary works, including works of Su Tong.
