Biography:
Born in Zhejiang in 1900, Cao was an active writer in Shanghai before coming to Hong Kong in 1950. He wrote a wide range of texts, some of which feature his friendship with the leading May-Fourth writers, Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren. His publications include 《浮過了生命海》[Floating on the Sea of Life] and 《我與我的世界》[My World and I].

Translator Biography:
Born in Scotland, Holton spent his early years in Nigeria. He studied Chinese at the universities of Edinburgh and Durham. He taught at a number of universities in the UK, and taught translation for ten years at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He began publishing his Scots translations of the classic Ming novel Shuihu Zhuan (Water margin) in 1981, and is currently the only publishing Chinese-Scots translator in the world.

Editor Biography:
Born in Hong Kong, Hung received her doctorate at the University of London. She was the Director of the Research Centre for Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and editor of the literary journal Renditions. She has translated works by Wang Anyi and Eileen Chang into English.
