Biography:
Apart from devoting himself to his writing career, Chan also founded the publishing house 天成出版公司 (Tin Shing Publishing House), and was the chief editor of the journal 《散文報》[Essays]. He spent a few years in Ecuador in the 1990s, and edited the magazine 《赤道風》 [Wind at the Equator] in Quito.

His 1994 Translation of The Fig Tree – Memoirs of a Taiwanese Patriot by Wu Zhuoliu was republished in 2002 by 1st Books Library.

Pollard served as Professor of Chinese at the University of London from 1978 to 1988 and Professor of Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1988 to 1997. He has written extensively on modern Chinese language and literature as well as on aspects of translation. Among his translations are The True Story of Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren: Selected Essays.
