Synopsis:
The protagonist of the story is a female factory worker who moves to Hong Kong after her brother, leaving her husband and child behind. Tired of the mundane and difficult life in Hong Kong, she reluctantly goes to Hung Hom Station to pick up her husband who has recently been allowed to cross the border, only to find out that her brother has taken his own life and is lying in a hospital bed.

Robson is Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Beloit College. She teaches all levels of Chinese language studies and Chinese calligraphy. Besides publishing research in the areas of modern Chinese linguistics, she has also served as a simultaneous interpreter and regularly translates Chinese texts into English.

She joined the Research Centre for Translation, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003 and served as Managing Editor of its magazine Renditions. Her research focuses on the translations of traditional Chinese literature into English and German.
