Chuck Tenon

Detail: The chuck tenon is a key connector for the legs, aprons, and head spandrels of tables, with its standout feature being the utilization of side legs to bolster the stability of taller tables. This joint configuration secures the legs around the aprons, creating a rectangular frame that stabilizes the angle between the tabletop and the legs. Consequently, this arrangement distributes the tabletop's weight evenly across all four legs.

Process: In the assembly process of a chuck tenon, the tops of the legs are fashioned into tenons that snugly insert into mortises beneath the tabletop. The upper portion of the legs flares open to secure the aprons and braces, with the legs conspicuously protruding above these elements. This design leverages the strength of the four legs to embrace the aprons, thus crafting a supportive rectangular frame that ensures the tabletop remains stable in relation to the legs, and evenly disperses the tabletop's weight across all legs.
