無危。迷鳥。全身大致栗褐色，深灰色冠羽長蓋枕部。成鳥上體具深色斑點。頦和喉有由黑縱紋組成的中線，伸延至胸部。在夜間、拂曉及黃昏時份活動。見於人跡罕至的林地。
Least Concern. Vagrant. A chestnut-coloured heron. Dark grey crown and long crest covering the nape. Adult has dark spots on upperparts. Side of throat and cheeks with dark central stripes diffusing to general streaking on belly and vent. Nocturnal and crepuscular. Found in undistrubed wooded areas.
