Wood Structure

  • The Dabei Pavilion Project is located within the Yanfu Temple in Qiandeng Town, Suzhou City, and is a building styled after the architecture of the Song Dynasty.
  • The hoop head tenon is primarily used at the junction of corner columns and lintels, where the top of the column features cross-shaped openings, and the lintels at the intersection with the columns are carved into interlocking tenons. This type of joint is designed to withstand both shear and tensile forces, ensuring a stronger connection between vertical and horizontal components, and effectively securing the columns at the corners.
  • Through tenons and half tenons are mainly used in components that are subject to tensile and bending forces, in places where an up-and-down installation method is not feasible.
  • Commonly used mortise and tenon joints for intersecting horizontal components include: dovetail tenons, hoop head tenons, cross-card waist tenons, and cross-cut half tenons.
  • For splicing wooden columns, traditional methods such as half tenons, copied hand tenons, mantis head tenons, and ju tenons are typically employed.
