Qiaotouan table with everted ends, Zitan wood

Kangxi 17th century
Qiaotouan table
Ipe (Zitan)

  • The tabletop is constructed from a single board with a floating panel design, featuring tongue-and-groove connections to a frame that includes shaped everted flanges, with the small frame members at the ends crafted from the same piece of wood for uniformity.
  • The frame's edge is contoured to slope gently downward, and the rounded legs are designed to accommodate the cloud-shaped apron-spandrels, securely joined to the tabletop via double lock tenons.
  • Two round stretchers are situated between the legs at each end, connected by a double ring medallion, adding structural support and decorative detail to the piece.
