A Huanghuali And Green Stone Chajiansun Recessed Leg Wine Table

Late Ming Dynasty
Wine Table
Cocobolo (Huanghuali), Green stone

  • The table's frame is constructed using traditional mitre, mortise, and tenon techniques, featuring a luxurious figured green stone top that rests on a lacquered board panel, supported by three dovetailed stretchers below. Visible tenons accent the frame's shorter sides, while the edges are artfully moulded downward and inward, culminating in a refined double-beaded edge.
  • The table's rectangular legs, adorned with beaded edges, are intricately crafted to incorporate an elegant, beaded-edged apron with openwork leaf-shaped spandrels, all from a single piece of wood. This apron is seamlessly integrated with the legs via a chajiansun, a flush bridle joint with mitred shoulders, showcasing expert craftsmanship.
  • Centrally decorated with liangzhuxiang double beading and blossoming into foliate motifs, the legs exhibit a subtle flare and extend into supporting feet. Each pair of legs is united by rectangular stretchers on the shorter sides, which are themselves detailed with mouldings at all four corners, enhancing the table's overall aesthetic.
