“Dear To My Heart”
“So Dear To My Heart” is not only the most appealing story Walt Disney ever had produced in colour by Technicolor, but it is also his most unique offering in that its delightful live-action ties in strikingly with his customary all-cartoon animations. It deals with familiar reality instead of fantasy.
It is the story of a recollected boyhood out of the heartland of America a generation ago, and is packed with emotion and treasured remembrance; filled with the gaiety, songs and dances, and with the sentiment of its time and place in Indiana. It deals simply and stirringly with the adventures of young Jeremiah Kincaid, a country lad, and spirited contest of wills between him and his austere grandma which involves the whole neighbourhood and the fate of a rambunctious black ram foundling.
The cartoon sequences all are applied to the motivation of the boy, played by Bobby Driscoll.
Beulah Bondi plays Granny Kincaid, who teaches the boy his manners and his morals; Burl Ives is the village Smith and family friend who champions the lad in times of stress, and who sings the haunting songs which gives so much grace to the drama; little Luana Patten is the loyal comrade, who shares experiences with the headstrong Jeremiah and his black ram, and Harry Carey, is seen as the sage judge of livestock and human nature.
Disney based the picture upon Sterling North’s story. RKO destributes the film.

The pleasant reek of prize stock pens rises annually under gala flags in the County Fairs in every one of the United States.
Merry-go-rounds and thrill-ride machines, popcorn stands and cider mill, shooting gallery and dance pavilion exert their ancient spell at the County Fairs.
Moreover, the County Fair is a focal point and highlight in Walt Disney’s “So Dear to My Heart”, colour by Technicolor, picturing the life and adventures of a rural boy of a generation ago, interpreted in cartoon and live action.
The Pike County Fair, in Brown County, Indiana, as Sterling North describes it in his book from which the Disney picture is derived, awards a prize blue ribbon to the young boy of the story for making a champion of a discarded little black ram lamb, thus “doing the best he could with what he had” to confirm the theme of the story.
County Fair scenes, with all their colour and excitement, culminate a clash of wills between young Jeremiah Kincaid and his austere but lovable Granny Kincaid, whose problem was to raise the boy.
The action, predominantly by livings players, although there is some cartoon animation to embellish the main narrative, is centered upon Bobby Driscoll, Disney’s 11 year old star, as the ambitious, headstrong farm lad; Beulah Bondi, as the pious but practical grandma; Burl Ives, as the village blacksmith who sings half a dozen new songs especially written for the picture; Harry Carey (in his last role) as a shrewed Judge of livestock and human nature, and Luana Patten, the devoted comrade of Jeremiah in all the boy’s adventures.
Hundreds of extra players bring authentic atmosphere and interesting bits to the action. The story of fond recollection is told via the voice X who was the boy一out of his family X and scrapbook, in animated cartoon treatment. It is rich in music as well as humour and tenderness and the nostalgic note of the American scene of a recent yesterday.

「靈暖臺春暖」同時是一部偉大的音樂片子。配的音樂由名音樂家保羅史蔑夫担任。內有歌曲入闋,兩 闋是流行的民歌六闋是新撰之作,俱悠揚動聽却易于上口的。高興歌曲的人。一定更高興這部片子。猶以主題歌「心中寶貝」爲值得介紹。
這部長凡七千三百餘尺的片子,在放映的八十二分鐘的時間裡,可以說道沒有一小節片子一分鐘不是動人的。全世界的觀衆也 懂得領略那部深入淺出富于人情味的傑作,迪斯尼的一番心血不算白花了。

Family Album Acts In
Disney Musical
While the direct story of Walt Disney’s current feature film, “So Dear to My Heart”,is told in live action, there is also the traditional Disney cartoon animation to embellish the romantic narrative, all in colour by Technicolor. The animation serves to picture the boy’s reflections as he thumbs through the family album and treasure book, while the narrator—representing that same boy now grown to manhood-relates what happened.
In this fashion the album opens to start the tale, to the accompaniment of the title song, “So Dear to My Heart.” In animation the wise Old Owl comes to “life” as the boy substitutes the picture of his little black lamb for that of the race horse, Dan Patch, as the new idol of his boyhood. The Owl and the cartoon version of the boy’s pet ram, go through a droll daydream scene until reality again is resumed by living actors.
Another vivid animation scene has the Owl inspire the boy with examples of courage and venturesome ambition, citing Christopher Columbus and Robert Bruce and the spider as examples, in the scrapbook scenes.
A County Fair fantasy again shows the Wise Old Owl and the prize black ram enjoying a gay time, in animation, with scenes evoked from gala postcards and trophies of days now faded into the time to youth. And finally, there is the cartooned brief epilogue as the hand of the man-who-was the-boy closes the aged album, with its special award ribbon betokening that the youngster has indeed “made” something dependable from what he “had—an animal of merit from a discarded lamb, and the foundation for own adjusted adult life.
The black sheep is a live animal for the main story action, and a cartoon character only for the animation interludes.

An action-jammed historical adventure yarn set in the lawless period of the Southwest following the War Between the States “South of St. Louis,” filmed in Technicolor, soon comes to the King’s Theatre headed by a four-star cast including Joel McCrea, Alexis Smith, Zachary Scott and Dorothy Malone. The picture is a United States Pictures Production released by Warner Bros.
Besides the quartet of stars, Victory Jory, Alan Hale, Douglas Kennedy, Art Smith, Bob Steele, Monte Blue and Paul Maxey are featured. Ray Enright directed. Milton Sperling produced.
“South of St. Louis” was the no-man’s land of the Civil War it was that vast area of Texas and the Southwest in which for the most part, the war was fought on both sides. The film depicts the taut, personal drama of three hard-riding men of the range, set against the violent background of the open spaces. Smuggling was rampant then and the reckless tempo of the time made life exciting and dangerous.
McCrea play Kip Davis whose purpose in the lusty tale is to restore the ranching land burned and pillaged by guerrillas in Union hire. Miss Smith departs from her usual roles to that of a flamboyant entertainer of the old west. As Rouge de Lisle, this beautiful blone star displays a completely new side, to her talents. Zach Scott plays a cowboy, not exactly a new role, as he hails from Texas and spent many of his younger years on a ranch. Miss Malone completing the roster of stars, is cast as Deboran, who is loved by McCrea but who loves another.
Most of the film was shot on “location,” at the Warner ranch in Calabasas, California, at Victoryille and in the San Fermando valley. Some of the greatest action spectacle scenes to be filmed last year were made, with a great cast, scores of horses, in western panoramic settings enhanced by gorgeous Technicolor.

「雁鈴三俠」寫的是美國南北戰事尙未結 束,在僻隅的西南地帶,政府鞭長夏及,法治的組織還在搖籃,一切也無法無天,土豪之流,XX一方,發展他們的勢力,擄掠刼奪的事情司空見慣,最足維持一個人的安全和私利的只有手裡的槍枝。男人都是冒險家,女人由愛他的男人加以照料。事故是時常也可以發生的,有些人正靠製造亂子,才維持了他們的生活。像那樣的時代那樣的背境爲題材的片子,永遠是充滿了剌激和緊張的動作的。
荷 理活每年也拍製不少那樣的公部片,却有着好劣之分。「雁鈴三俠」有它的出類拔萃的地方,只爲題材是經過愼重的選擇的,華納决心把它製爲超特的出品,不惜多下工本。好劍本找到了,便分派給下的一等紅星多名,分別担演片子中的重要戲,那張演員表除了祖麥基利之外,還有妖媚動人的女主角阿歷絲史莫芙,溫柔貞靜的多魯菲美倫,分任片中的女主角。絕對不同的兩種個性,各有可取的地方。「三俠」的其餘兩個重要角色由少年英俊的沙加利史葛和德格拉斯堅尼地分任。在一切之上,這片乃由七彩攝成——特別够燦爛悦目的進步七彩。
劇情的大意是寫大戰時候,祖麥基利,沙加利史葛和德格拉斯堅尼地也囘到故鄕,一心把荒蕪的家園整頓起來,免落在强佔的 土豪的手裡。他們的革靴上也各繫雁鈴作記,把他們的農莊叫三鈴農莊。徒來見時勢仍在動盪當中的,種植的事無甚可爲,堅尼地到軍隊裡服務去了。祖麥基利在一家賭館裡認識了歌伶阿歷絲史蔑芙,她表面賣唱爲生,實際上幹的却是私運軍火的勾當。於是祖麥基利和史葛也加入了她的勾當。麥基利的愛人美倫一向也不贊成他過的冒險生涯,失望之餘,當女看護的工但去了,可是他却吿訴她說他需要找那一匹錢,作爲建立的根基,錢弄到了手,他便洗手不幹了。走運軍火的利潤可觀,不料却和土豪的域陀佐利結下了更深的怨恨。朋友之間,他和史葛因財失義,弄出許多麻煩來了。美倫後來更索性嫁給比較安定的堅尼地。留下了一個傷心失意的麥基利,由史蔑芙把他招料,最後是經過一塲更大的變幻,三個老朋友才又聯結在一塊兒和歹徒搏鬥。史葛丟了性命。麥基利放棄了他的走私勾當,和情深一往的史蔑芙結婚。
「雁鈴三俠」動作多於一切,打鬥的塲面兇得很,祖麥基利和沙利史葛的做工優秀如昔。阿歷絲史蔑芙表現外表放蕩,內 心寂寞的「壞」女人的個性,動人之至,她並在片子裡唱了幾支動人的歌曲。
本片大部份的外景乃在風和日麗的加理福尼亞拍攝 ,幽美得很。李安禮導演。
Biography Of David
Niven,The Star Of “South Of St. Louis”
Born of a French mother and a Scottish father, David Niven was christened for the Saint’s Day on which he was born, March 1st. 1910. He was born at Kirriemuir, Angus, and was sent to Stowe, then a new Public School. From there he entered the regular army, through Sandhurst, taking a commission in the highland Light Infantry in 1928. He served in Malta.
After overseas service he found peactime soldiering in England far from exciting and, after trying it for two years resigned his commission and sailed for Canada. There he did all the jobs that young men in similar circumstances have done before and since. He worked on a newspaper, on bridge construction, was a waiter, a barman. After six months of doing everything, the decided to try the U.S.A. Following the sun, he spent some time beachcombing in Bermuda and Havana. Cuba was having the usual revolution and, as it appeared to be anybody’s fight, David joined in on both sides! This was exciting until the British Consul gave him twenty minutes to get out of the country. He wound up in Santa Barbara and in a poor financial state.
In the light of his subsequent success it is interesting that he always comforted himself, when reaching rock bottom, that if all else failed he could always be an actor. Inevitably he turned to Hollywood, going through the usual drill of the unknown and uninitiated. He applied at the contral casting bureau and found himself on the list as “English Type 2008”. The first 2007 made for heavy competition, so he worked for two years an an extra, supplementing his income by working as deckland on a swordfish boat.
In spite of his modest profession, David became a great social success, which led to meetings with the great and a contract from Sam Goldwyn. This did not mean stardom overnight but years of hard work. His first line, in “Barbary Coast,” was delivered in a Cockney accent. It was: “All right, I’ll go,” and it went into the trailer. His next success aws a one-liner, too: “Hello, my dear, 'to Elissa Landi, followed by “Good-bye,me dear”,to Ruth Chatterton. During the time he was in B pictures the late Doug. Fairbanks did all he could to help him, but it was his attractive personality that led to his first real chance as an actor, in “Dodsworth.” This was followed by Prisoner of Zenda” and “Dawn Patrol,” and then he was established. Bob Cummings Used An English Accent To Achieve First Success On Stage
Some day an alert Hollywood producer is going to cash in the amazing life story of Robert Cummings, and make himself a pretty sensational motion picture. Cummings’ career, in and out of films, has been as hectic as any yet recorded in the annals of Hollywood.
Currently Bob can be seen in the Triangle film, “Sleep, My Love”, in which he is co-starred with Claudette Colbert and Don Ameche. Mary Pickford, Charles Buddy Rogers and Ralph Cohn produced it, with United Artists releasing. It is coming to the King’s Theatre.
Bob was born in Joplin, Missouri, the son of a doctor. Although aviation was his first love, he decided that the stage was the place where he wanted to earn his living. At the beginning he found making the Broadway grade tough sledding. At this period British actors were greatly in demand, so Bob went over to England where he took a bicycle trip through the countryside acquiring a clipped British accent as he went.
Upon his return to the States, Bob not only sported a broad “a” but a new name also- Blade Stanhope Conway. It didn ’t take long for this bogus English actor to get a part in Galsworthy’s play, “The Roof”. A succession of roles followed, climaxed by a part in the Ziegfield Follies.
The old yearning for new fields to conquer again cropped up, and when Bob heard that King Vidor was searching for a real Texan for “So Red the Rose”, Blade Stanhope Conway suddenly became Brice Hutchins, from deep in the heart of Texas. Before he knew what was happening, King Vidor had a new leading man. After a series of pictures with Paramount, the Brice Hutchins character exploded and Bob once more assumed his own identity.
When he played in “Three Smart Girls Grow Up”, starring Deanna Durbin, Cummings was launched on an entirely new career- that of a romantic hero. Universal signed him to a contract and he was cast in such hits as “The Devil and Miss Jones” “Saboteur” and “Forever and a Day.” Other outstanding films in which he has appeared are “King’s Row” “Princess O’Roukie” “The Chase” and “Heaven Only Knows.”
During the war Bob became a flyer, and towards the end he was a flight instructor. Ha was given a leave of absence from his duties as flight instructor so that he might accept the lead in a picture concerning flyers- “You Came Along”.
For the vital statistics record: Cummings is 6 feet, one inch tall, weighs 179 pounds, has blue eyes and brown hair. He is married to the former Mary Elliot, and they have a small son.
Buddy Rogers writes new song for “Sleep, My Love.
Buddy Robers and Rudy Schrager have collaborated in the writing of a new song, “Sleep, My Love” which has been used as the theme song of the picture of that title which Rogers produced in collaboration with his wife, Mary Pickford, and Ralph Cohn.
“Sleep, My Love” co-stars Claudette Colbert, Robert Cummings and Don Ameche. It is coming to the King's Theatre through United Artists release.
Stand-in gets chance to act with Claudette Colbert meets herself coming and going in her latest film, “Sleep My Love,” which is coming to the King’s Theatre through United Artists release. Miss Colbert’s stand-in, Carol Deane, plays one scene with the star, the first screen role she playyed in their seven years' association. They play together in an airliner sequence, with Claudette as the passenger and Carol as the passenger and Carol as an air hostess who engages her in conversation.

「海棠春睡」“Sleep My Love”是那一對恩愛夫妻合作的結晶品,瑪利辟福年青時候飲譽至隆,全美國的電影女明星,她佔第一位。到了她離開銀幕,却仍不忘懷電影事業,便投資做製片工作。查理羅渣氏便來幫他的太太的。有時在片中參加演出;他本來當過著名樂隊的領班,深懂樂理,於是他有時替那些片子撰些樂曲,製配音的譜,有時担任助理監製的工作。「海棠春睡」的歌,便是他的傑作,一部份配的音樂,也是他親自指揮樂隊演奏的。

「海棠 春睡」的情節曲拆得很,柳暗花明,許多使觀衆難以預測的地方,都是以最巧妙的佈局,埋下了伏線,處處都表现得十分合理的。那劇本的編寫,端的是成功的偉。
當阿美曹的死我X看得多少,倒很少見到他演反派的。大家也應該來瞧瞧他這一部傑作,他演的那麼 好,不但和歌露拔是一對好搭檔,更証明了他是個全能的演員,允文允武,正派和反派戲也一般勝任愉快的。
「海棠春睡」好在 不落俗套,別有它的一派風格,全部戲由開始到結束的一幕也充滿了緊張刺激的氣氛。甘明斯也相當優秀,雖然演戲的機會比較少,却一定演得很好。性格演員羅富摩根飾醫生一角,得一穩字,夏素布祿絲是銀幕上的新妖婦,他的歌喉,她的苗條體態,加上她的天生妖媚的眉眼,她注定了要做一個銀幕上的標準蕩婦。

The Orient and Orientals aren’t what they used to be. The old saying about the East and the West doesn’t hold true either, and living proof of the fact evinced in Hollywood where the East and the West do actually meet.
In one of the colorful scenes of Triangle’s initial production, “Sleep, My Love”, co-stars Claudette Colbert and Robert Cummings are wedding guests at the mairriage ceremonies of Keye Luke and his Oriental bride, Maria San Marco.
For the festive occasion, Diretor Douglas Sirk engaged a good portion of the Los Angeles Chinese Colony to act as wedding guests and to participate in the actual ceremony itself. Then it was discovered that the members of the Los Angeles Chinese Colony were not quite “hep on” what they were supposed to do at the wedding and what form their participation ought to take.
So Director Douglas Sirk had to hire Frank Tang, an expert on Chinese tradtions, customs and lore, as technical advisor on the picture- teaching the Chinese how to act like Chinese.
“Sleep, My Love” was produced by March Pickford, Charles Buddy Rogers and Ralph Cohn. It is tense, romantic drama set in New York’s fashionable Sutton Place section. United Artists is releasing the film, which is coming to the King’s Theatre. Others in the cast beside Miss Colbert and Mr. Cummings are Don Ameche, also in a starring role, and George Couloruis, Rita Johnson, Hazel Brooks, Keye Luke and Ralph Morgan in important featured parts.
Maria San Marco, who plays the role of the Chinese bride, was born in the Philippine Islands and, when war came to the Pacific, was imprisoned by the Japs. After two years, she escaped and came to America. Her first film appearance was in “Anna and the King of Siam”, her second in “Intrigue,” and third in “Sleep, My Love”.

袁俊的成名,是在他從英國學成歸來,連寫了「小城故事」,「邊城故事」,「山城故事」幾個劇作以後。 他從事第一部影片的導演工作是「還鄕日記」,在這劇作中他的處現手法還顯得生疏,但在第二部「乘龍快壻」裡,他已有着令人不敢小覷的成績。「火葬」是他加人永華公司,集中我國銀壇第一流優秀演員,運用永華全部美式配備最新型的器材,商極有計劃與歩驟地拍攝而成,演片的成績,自然會令我們想像到有超出國產片一般水準的成就。

「火葬」的故事,是以反封建爲主題,背景是北方落後的農村,出現在這部片中的人物,有明艷溫婉的少婦,英俊 硬朗的漢子,守節撫孤的老婦,覬覦家產的族叔,地瘩流氓無賴漢等,由這羣人的活動,表現出殘存封建努力籠罩下的北方農村種種色色,特別是「小丈夫」惡習的殘酷不人道。
劇情的大意是:若干年前北方某處的農村裡,孟家酒店己十三楊小掌櫃孟長春(牛犇飾 ),迎娶了一個正在青春期的少婦雙喜(白歲飾),當她被迎娶過門的時候,有一個久的垂液她的流氓賴三(王斑飾)率領着羣小去搶花轎,路遇一個名叫展大鵬(陶金飾)的出面解了圍,孟家爲了感激他,就留他在家居住,雙喜嫁了這個小丈夫,已經受够人們的嘲笑,爽直軒昂的展大鵬,成了她感情宣洩的對象。展大鵬本是一個孑然一身的流氓漢,靠流動各村做買賣爲生,他和十娼黑翠(呂恩飾)相熟,黑翠見他和雙喜感情日佳,就散佈很多間話,企圖拆散他們,大鵬和雙喜,漸漸也感非設法解决不可,結果未能如願,竟從火自焚身亡。(洵)
「火葬」本事
人世間設多悲劇的演出,往往由於社會上不良的習俗而起,這種形式各異的不良的習俗,幾乎彌漫着人世的每個角落裡,本片所述就是一個例子。
在北方一些落後閉塞的農村裡,常有着X種「小 丈夫」制度,因爲家中需要成年的女人來協助家務和服役勞動,或是老寡婦用以抵抗X人的覬覦財產,往往使尙在童年時期的兒子,迎候一個超過年齡一兩倍以上的女子來作媳婦,X劇就日此產生。
若干年前北方某處的一個農村裡,在十娼X翠的下處,土豪賴三爲 了單戀東村美女雙喜,不能順利到手,正喝着悶酒,他手下幾個無賴,跑進來吿訴他,雙喜將要嫁給孟家酒店的小掌櫃盂長春,這消息對頼三等於一個晴天霹雷,使他又傷心又悲憤,再加上這幫爪牙們的從恿,他們决定在送親途上,攔搶親。
正當搶花橋得手的當兒 ,一個在城鎭間作販運生意的英俊少年展大鵬,趕着騾車術過來,他是一個硬漢,馬上便來打拘不平,三拳兩脚,把這羣流氓打得鼠竄而去。
花橋放了下來,送親的行列繼續前進,孟家總算把這花朵般的小媳婦娶了進門,當時小丈夫長春,在一陣熱烈的歡聲下,强 制執行挑去了新娘領上的紅方巾,大鵬一見新娘月貌花容果眞不凡,心弦己在動彈,同時盂奶奶怕這班流氓再來囉,想把長春拜了大鵬作寄父,可是大鵬堅决不肯,結果長春爲弟,并且拜了孟奶奶作乾媽,從此大鵬成了孟家的上賓,嘗到從未有過的溫暖。
一個尙不 懂人事的孩子,娶了了正在青春期的少婦,春花秋月,自是等閒度過,雙喜的心坎深處,有着極難宣洩的苦悶,又看見展大鵬年青,力壯,能幹,體貼,日子一久,使他倆茁丁愛苗,情慾也一进發了出來,就像風勢勢虎虎中的火燄,耐止不住,更壓刷不住。
後來展 大鵬因受不了苦戀的折磨,和良心的責備,决定離開孟家,有一天晚上,當他將拔開門栓的時候,雙喜忽暗跟上來把他手按住,將大鵬在幽會時遺留在她房內的一雙鞋子交還給大鵬,大鵬一見雙喜,這鐵打般的漢子就又氣餒了,他們遂計議在陪同長春朝山進香謝神還願的時候,覷個機會私奔他鄕,好長久得廝守着。
這個日夜進盼着的日子終於到來了,他們套了騾車,陪着長春進香,在長春伏神案前 叩首的當兒,大鵬和雙喜暗暗離去,將要走上騾車,黑翠早有準備,這時她突然和孟家酒店傭工的小扣子趕來,大鵬和雙喜便不敢上車,急急地走上山崖向小路奔去。
小路崎嶇難行,他倆心理又急又怕,翻過山頭後,雙喜實在走不動了,長春向佛像摩頂禮拜後,抬 頭不見大鵬和雙喜,長春沒法四處問訊,又被人調侃奚落了一陣,說他的媳婦被人拐走了。於是他一路喊着真大哥姊姊追了上來,這時,雙喜受不了命運的播弄,縱身欲跳山崖,被大鵬一把搶抱住,長春以爲他倆棲一處,忘記一切很天眞的照着進香人的口吻喊出了大哥拐走了他的媳婦,大鵬想阻止他,長春還在拍手跳躍,不料他站立石脚下的石頭不穩,偶一不愼翻跌倒崖下斃命。
長春旣夭折,孟家 的本族中便來覬覦這份在鄕間算得上殷實的財產,孟奶奶支吾了過去,在這時孟奶奶正在病中,她時常在想,雙喜有志守節,大鵬仍舊留在孟家裡襄助居務。然而,大鵬心貧疚日深,長春生前的音宿笑貌,也常像幻影般地出現他的眼前,使他日趨陰鬱,這樣也有幾個月不出門去作生意。黑翠來看了他一次,對他一次對他冷嘲熱譏,把他挑怒起來,大聲呼喝把她逐X了出去,黑翠在妒恨交織中,準備用毒計來對付大鵬和雙喜。
當盂奶奶病將復原,雙呢巳懷有身孕,這予大鵬以深刻的剌激,爲免事情敗露起見」大鵬採取了斷然的行動, 他瘋狂也似的奔向街市,買了包毒藥,偷偷地放在孟奶奶的藥罐子裡,準備將孟奶奶毒死後,他們就可自由了。這時,抱病躺在床上的孟奶奶,她深恐她自己一病不起,怕族人來爭產,所以特地把雙呢和大鵬喚到床前,告他們已經託人立了字據,在她死了之後,這份家當由雙喜和大鵬對分,說完便端起藥來欲飲,大鵬良心未泯,急上去把孟奶奶手中的藥碗打掉,說出他巳在藥中下了毒藥,雙喜也說出她腹中也有了兩個月身孕,這些事情太出乎孟奶奶的意料之外了,X不起一急,心病腹發猝然死去了。
這些事的經過,竟被黑翠偸聲去 ,立刻跑出與小扣子鳴鑼集衆,蜂擁到盂家店來懲治這對判逆的男女,大鵬和雙喜倆到了這個上天無路入地無門的時候,便在草房內縱火自焚,他們緊緊她依偎着,火燄逐漸呑吞噬了孟家酒店,他倆便犧牲在這因襲的不良習俗之下了。
「火葬」導演袁俊
如果你曾到永華攝影塲,留心一下指揮演員的舵手,那個况默寡言,性格堅定,有着哥登克雷作風的,就是—導演袁俊。
他出身是我國名學府淸華大學,不過在同學錄中你是找不到「袁俊」 這名字的,他的原名是張駿祥。他出洋留學是公費,是那年戲劇部門數十人中唯一被錄取的學生,在國外他學的是編導,與黄佐臨是同學。歸國後執教國立劇專,寫過極有系統的導演論,介紹許多歐美派的戲劇學說,同時又以袁俊這筆名寫運很多劇本,有「小城故事」,「邊城及事」,「山城故事」,「萬世師表」,「美國總統號」以故改編作「富貴浮雲」。
最早介紹張駿祥劇作是佐臨,由於同學 的關係,佐臨進上海劇藝就排他的早期作品「小城故事」,一個染有外國風味的劇本,雖沒有怎樣的轟動上海,不過袁俊這兩個字,總算已經列入了戲劇圈。
繼「小城故事」以後,佐臨又替上海劇藝社排「邊城故事」,這個劇本巳較前有了進步,加上優秀演員的全 力合作,終於使袁俊的名字,在戲劇圈裡響了起來。
抗戰時期,袁俊在内地也是很走紅的,不但國立劇專的導演,而且領導過劇 團,于是他在劇壇上的地位一天比一天高了。
袁俊是走編導的路子的,幹編導的非要有優秀演員才能使劇作生輝,於是當白楊同 他合作時,他終于用「情感一俘虜這個不覊的野馬,使她成爲他太太。
他感化人的力量是相當大的,白楊毅然擺脫過去的不健康 作風,把私生活嚴肅起來,思想前進,肯多看書,不是好劇本不拍,似乎全是受了他思想的感染。
勝利以後,他帶領「中電」劇 團來滬,演過他自己作品「萬世師表」,由於這一劇作,袁俊獻出他的全力因此,成績是非常的美蟈,給上海戲劇界很震驚。
由 於袁俊是「中電」秘書關係,終于分配到導演影片的機會,開始拍他的處女作「還鄉日記」。
「還鄕日記」是令人失望的,主要 是這個劇本缺乏眞實性。在這次失敗後,他沒有灰心,他的第一部作品「乘龍快婿」,已令人刮目相看了。
「火葬」是他第三部 作品,他有着湛深的影劇理論基礎,再加上他在攝影塲所獲的實踐經驗,復肯探索,肯硏究,他在這部「火葬」片中,到千幾個高潮的控制,全劇農村氣氛的把握,都明現了處理手法的優秀與有著嶄新的創造,這証顥他是已步入成功的途徑。(雲)
閒話「火葬」
白揚,陶金,呂恩三大紅星主演的「火葬」,是一部以北方農村爲背景的佳片,當這部影片完成,在永華公司不公開的試映後,白揚自己爲這是她在戰後所主演的幾部影片中最令她滿意的一部。
北國的宮闕,垂柳,駝鈴,鶴聲,不少人在夢寢縈懷着吧,在這部「火葬」中,我看見嵯峨的X堞,跨着沉重闊步的駱駝,妙峯山朝香出會的盛况踩高蹻,唱X戲……這些景像,生長在北國的人們,在此異鄕爲異客中當不無「不堪囘首月明中!」之感。
婚喪喜慶, 各地有各地的習俗,在這部片中,有北方一部份落後農村至今還保持着的濃重東方色彩的形式,白揚披戴着鳳冠霞帳,一塊紅巾把臉面深深地垂遮着,十三歲的小丈夫牛,馬袍馬褂,胸前交義着花紅彩綢,頭戴紅頂瓜皮小帽,用一把秤顫微微地將白揚的紅巾揭起,猥瑣地與他這年歲幾大一倍的媳婦坐並在坑上。
陶金雖是蘇州人,因了上幾代在京服官的關係,也等於在北方落了戶,他的令堂大人一向 在故都安居,陶金乘「火葬」在北平拍攝的機會,得暢叙天倫之樂,羨煞不少這片外景隊的工作人員。
「火葬」的導演袁俊,是 北名學府「淸華」出身,從中學至大學,勾留在北平多年,故都在他不啻爲第二故鄕,這片的置景秦威,是道地的北平人,從小之長,至於斯,與於斯,因此,秦威在這戲中的設計與置景,袁俊在演戲中所傳達出來的北國鄕土氣氛,十分的濃郁逼眞,令觀衆如置身處地在北方的農村裡!
有一位文藝批評X看完了這片的試映後對袁俊說:「火葬」這戲有三絕:一是編導的處理手法絕妙,二是演員的演 技絕好,三是傳達出的鄕土氣氛絕眞!」
呂恩是戰後新星中的翹楚,飾演風騷潑辣的女人是擅長,她在這片中飾演陶金的情婦, 爲了半路擠進個溫婉明艷的白揚,而與陶金大打出手,嘜功硬功一齊施展,演來有聲有色,令入叫絕!
在「火葬」中,我們發現 了一個新的童星,他的國語純流正利,演技熟練自然,他飾演白楊的小丈夫孟長春,那副可笑又可憐的樣子,令觀衆從憐憫中生出同情。他的名字叫牛,圈裡的人叫他「小牛子」,是名演員謝添在中電三廠時發掘出來的,袁俊到北平拍攝「火葬」外景時,謝添把他鄭重介紹,結果一鳴驚人。(環)
BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE
Scottish Music & Dances:
“Bonnie Prince Charlie”
“Bonnie Prince Charlie,” starring David Niven and Margaret Leighton, which is coming to the King’s Theatre, contains a grand display of Scottish music and diancing, for the Prince himself was as gay as he was bonnie, and delighted in the songs and reels of his loyal clansmen.
Director Anthony Kimmins engaged the greatest experts in both lines.
Pipe Major Macdonald Murray, leading a band of Scottish is been in two traditional dances in the Derby barn scenes. One, a sword dance, is to the tune of “Ghillie Callum,” the other is the famous “Reel of Tullock,” which was always danced to celebrate a victory.
Another Pipe Major, the well-known Ian Macdonald, who has a collection of manuscripts of Jacboite songs and is an expert bagpipe player, was called in to supervise the background music. Among the popular tunes which will be heard fleetingly are “Charlie, he’s my Darling,” “My King has landed in Moidart,” “Macrimmon’s Lament,” “Ghillie Callum, ” “Lochiel’s Welcome,” and Somebody.”
In Technicolor the magnificence of the tartans comes cut in full splendour as the dancers leap and turn in the superb swagger of the reel. With the classic swing of the kilt and romantic skirl of the pipes, these scenes are a veritable feast of colour and movement.
日月精忠
Riding The Scree: Bonnie PrinceCharlie
One of the most exciting scenes in the film, “Bonnie Prince Charlie,” with David Niven in the title role and co-starring Margaret Leighton, was filmed 2,000 ft. up in the middle of The Three Sister mountain in Glencoe. In this London Film, directed by Anthony Kimmins, the whole campaign in which Prince Charlie led his gallant Highlanders in 1745 is thrillingly depicted in Technicolor. The actual settings and battles were carefully and accurately filmed, but some of the feats performed by the tough eighteenth century clansmen were difficult indeed.
One of these feats of Prince Charlie’s army was to “Ride the scree. ” Mountaineers describe this as glissading down a mountainside which is covered with loose stones. For these scenes men were specially chosen from the Scottish Mountaineering Club, but even these skilled athletes could not ride the scree with bare feet, as Prince Charlie’s men had done. These modern mountaineers had to wear camouflaged shoes!
The excitement of such scenes can well be imagined, the shouts of the attacking Highlanders, the Kaleidoscopic effect of so many tartans rushing to the attack, the thunder of the loose stones as they charge down the scree!
歷史巨片「日月精忠」
堂皇偉大,七彩豪華
娛樂戲院鄭重介紹它的觀衆 一部非看不可的歷史七彩巨片。自有七彩片和歷史古裝片以來,「日月精忠」無疑是最偉大的一部了。主角正是「平步靑雲」「主敎之妻」等片的大衛尼雲。這個被譽爲捨郞奴高路文以外再無他人的大明星,在本片中飾演一位出生入死,力圖復國的流亡王子。
兵刄 相接的屠殺性的大戰,溫馨旖旖的兒女私情,如火茶如的愛國運動,哀艷頑絕的死別生離。「日月」精忠包含一頁可歌可泣的故事,動人之深,無以復加。
這部由大導演安東尼全棉斯嘔心瀝血而成的傑作寫的是一七四五年的時代漂亮王子查理士力謀復辟的故事。大 衛尼雲飾那位勇敢驚險的王子,如花似玉的瑪格烈禮頓飾他的紅顔知己科羅娜麥當奴,讀史的人都知道她拯救了王子的性命,幫忙他逃出蘇格蘭。這經過是怎樣子的呢?一九四五年,王子查理士史超活想着推翻英皇佐治第二,恢復自己的寶座。他帶了七位隨從親信潛囘蘇格蘭,向擁護他的國人活動,招得勤王人馬。不幸在克萊墩一役大戰,却全軍覆滅,遭慘殺敗了。查理士王子僅以身免,只好到處找藏身之所,躱避捕的官兵。可是圍捕者重重,不只爲王了要搜尋子,還希望得到了佐治第二的可觀的懸紅。過了多天的流動亡命生活,在一個危險得很的關頭,他碰到了科羅娜。科羅娜慧眼識英雄,她結果把他打救了。不只幫他跑出了搜捕者的重圍,並幫他逃出大陸,準備捲土重來。讀史的人時常也懷疑查理士王子與科羅娜之間,是否發生了戀愛,有一個頗長的時間他們是獨在一塊兒的,在山嶺水涯的秘密地方他們朝夕相對,禍福與共的並肩和惡劣的環境爭鬥,他們兩個都是極端漂亮的人物,愛上了也是人之常情,何况她芳心裡崇拜王子的英勇,王子也感激她的義氣幫呢。
「日月精忠」的外景全部根據史實,在查理士王子當年避難的地方實地拍製的。蘇格蘭原野的美麗風 內,盡量收入鏡内。大衛尼雲的天才,在本片裡盡量表現無遺。明星當中,也難找第二個人,更適合查理士王子的個性,他的淡刻做工,直堪擊節讚賞。
本院極力推荐這部片子,爲了它的眞實的偉大。戰前那樣好出品已屬的罕見,戰後更應語視爲奇了珍。「日月精 忠」的成本倘以金鎊的數字說明,那簡直是個龐大的天文數字。本片的演員,除了男女主角之外,都是歐美電影和舞台界的名伶,表演一律不失身份。
本片的戰景也屬空前偉大,連營十里,劍戟如林,動員閒角五六千人,才完成了戰爭的一塲大戲。服裝佈景,倶經 專家們謹愼考古設計,一絲不苟的保留着十八世紀的空氣。花在這方面的錢,佔去成木的重大部份。
悲壯激昂,轟轟烈烈的「日 月精忠」是今年度最偉大的歷史彩片,請留心我們的放映日期,萬勿錯過。
“Intrigue”, New Raft Film, Is Tense Drama
Those addicts of the George Raft type of highly keyed, taut drama with a thoughtful content will welcome his latest film, “Intrigue.”
The story of an ex-Army flier who is sucked into black market operations in food in post-World War II Shanghai features Raft as the protagonist, June Havoc as the blonde enchantress who lives by her wits and off the proceeds of the food manipulators, and that charming newcomer, Helena Carter, as a hostess in a Red Cross canteen.
In the supporting cast are three of the most sinister-appearing characters Hollywood has produced in many a day: dulcet-toned radio announcer Marvin Miller whose face belies his voice; Dan Seymour, and Egypt’s favourite romantic hero, Hassan Ezzat, who is the Western World’s prototype of villainy. Tom Tully plays a newspaperman with the proverbial nose £or news and the guts to follow it into many a precarious situation.
“Intrigue” has many novel facets to it. It represents its star, George Raft's first venture into actual production, the first of three films he and Sam Bischoff will co-produce for United Artists release. And it marks the fifth time Raft has worked under the direction of Edwin L. Marin whom he personally selected to megaphone this and his future co-produced films.
In addition it registers June Havoc's success at talking the motion picture minds out of casting her in strictly cheese-cake roles. She has been aiming at dramatic stature for some time and finally gave up Hollywood in disgust to appear on Broadway as a thespian rather than a “Bumper” and a “Bumper” and a “grider,” as the film capitol seemed to feel Gypsy Rose Lee’s sister had to be. Raift lured her back to the West Coast with the offer of the starring feminine role in “Intrigue.”
Miss Havcc has put thumbs down on all cheesecake poses and X throughout the film in evening gowns without once giving the audience a glimpse of her famous, shapely legs.
And Raft, who has a reputation for gambling on new talent, signed up Helena Carter, who had only two small parts in “Something in the Wind” and “Time Out of Mind” to her credit, for the second stellar feminine part.
The fact that “Intrigue” is set in present-day Shanghai required so many Chinese actors that the Raft-Bischoff film used up every available Oriental thespian and would-be thespian in the environs,of Hollywood, including the city’s one Korean actor who plays the part of a Chinese. And Marin was still so desperately in need of additional players that Phillip Ahn, the Korean, enlisted the aid of his brother, Philson Ahn, a research engineer for Howard Hughes’ aviation enterprises, in an acting capacity.
Producer George Raft
Hollywood, that “wheelbarrow full of surprises,” has come up with something new even for the citadel of filmdom- a producer who wouldn’t took at even one foot of film of his own picture.
This freak among movie moguls is George Raft who, like many another top Hollywood star, finally turns producer in his own right, in partnership with Sam Bischoff in Star Films, Inc. Their first stint, “Intrigue,” a story of sinister operations in Theatre through United Artists release.
Raft has absorbed and digested a not-to-be-sneezed-at background of production knowledge during his 17 years in front of the cameras and both Bischoff and director Edwin L. Marin found him an invaluable aid in story conferences and in helping unravel knotty production problems.
But he still preserves his actor’s tradition of never seeing himself on the screen, watched no rushes and left it entirely up to Bischoff, Marin and their production assistants to analyze cutting problems. And he still maintains, as he has on all his previous starring pictures, that he will never see the finished product on the screen.
Raft’s only explanation is the simple statement: “I know the sort of job I can do in a picture, and I know my limitations. I don’t see what I can add to my efforts by seeing these pictures. It would only make me uncomfortably self-conscious to watch myself on the screen and might hurt my future work by making me self-conscious on the set.”
There is another aspect of his work on which Raft is equally adamant. Many of his bitter arguments with studios in the past have been over scenes or bits of dialogue which he felt glorified the more ruthless aspects of the characters he played.
“Every star manages to attract a following of youngsters who think that everything in that star’s roles is worthy of emulation,” he says. “That poses a responsibility which can never be over-emphasized. The star must be careful not to allow himself to show crime or any illegal activities as attractive in any way.”
Raft points to a number of his roles in the past and shows that not only was the punishment drastic for the error of the character’s way, but that the element of good in the character always got the upper hand, turning on others and even on himself to see that right ultimately prevailed.
George Raft Now Clock-Watcher
Gone are the days when George Raft’s rugged individualism was a source of worry to assistant directors who sweated out his arriving on the set on time.
Now that George is in partnership with producer Sam Bischoff no “Intrigue,” the United Artists release coming to the King’s Theatre, he showed a novel punctilious attitude toward his daily routine.
The new metal set showed up on the first day of production when Raft had lunch in his dressing room with Bischoff and director Edwin L. Marin. Just before they attacked the soup, the star looked at his watch and warned:
“I’m giving you boys just 40 minutes to get through your lunch. With my dough in the picture, we’re going to get back on the set ahead of time and get the next shot right on schedule.”
It wasn’t that way in the old days.

記得戰前有過一部叫做「上海——冒險家的樂園」的書,那部並不是有什麼了不起的文學價值的出版物,却曾轟動一 時,完全因爲它的暴露的坦白和大胆的描寫,把外國人在上海幹的好事,販毒走私,抱着中國人都是可欺的笨伯的觀念,妄作妄爲,揭發淋漓盡致。
佐治拿夫的新作「身入虎穴」Intrigue差不多是同樣性質的東西,該片控訴的是他們的另一種罪狀——新的更大的罪 狀,囤積居奇,製造黑市。無數的小市民餓着肚皮,輾轉溝窒,他們却安享富貴,吸血自肥了。
全部以復員後的上海市爲背境, 片子的開塲我們見到佐沿拿夫是個退伍的飛行員。繼續靠飛行過他的生活。他受委托秘密載一幫寶物走私東來,在上海降著。當他發覺自己是被利用了,應護索取更大的酬報,他去找到了走私的老板,很X異的發覺那私梟原來却是個綺年玉貌的美人兒。不只入夥,平均分享利潤,並成了她的入幕之賓,結下一段孽緣。
從來有惡的地方自有善的對立。佐治拿夫在上海認識了一個善良的女人,她是國際 紅十字會的女職員。那少女的純潔給他的「飄泊的心一點眞正的溫暖。另外一個充滿正義感的是個美新聞記者,他的老朋友。他來上海的任務正爲了要揭發走私囤積和黑市操縱的黑幕。他知道佐治拿夫也是歹徒中的一個,忠言勸他洗手沒有結果,便跟他割席。
後來 那新聞記者的被暗算促使佐治拿夫的覺悟,復感于紅十字會的女朋友的服務精神,觸目皆是的一般飢餓市民的慘象,他覺悟了,身上虎穴把積存倉庫裡的粮食全部開放,讓飢餓的市民自由拿取,和私梟搏鬥,迫使他們立一張供狀。在紅十字會服務的女孩子感于他的偉大,許以終身,大團圓結局。
那樣的結局雖近乎幻想,可是對于私梟的組織,黑市造成的慘狀,却有潔刻的描寫。把動盪中的大上海的 容貌刻劃分明。是大時代的中國的一段刺激的小揷曲。
妖媚動人的珍夏和飾桂女私梟,她的陰險加上她的烟視媚行態度使她成爲 銀幕上的漂準尤物。著名歌女南溫參加演出。溫柔貞靜的嘉蓮娜卡達飾演充滿正義感的服務紅十字會裡的女郞,助演員包含湯杜里,馬雲美拉,丹西磨等。

Menace With A Vengeance
Not since the frithtening heyday of the late Laird Cregar has the screen seen so much menace in one piece as is flashed on the screen these days by Raymong Burr.
Six foot two-and-a-half inches tall and weighing a hard-packed 235 pounds, Burr has just completed his 15th “heavy” assignment as Michelotto in Paramount’s melodramatic thriller, “Bride of Vengeance”, costarring Paulette Goddard, John Lund and MaDonald Carey.
“Bride of Vengeance” tells a racy story about the poisoning Lucretia and her powermad brother, Cesare. Michelott was Cesare’s hatchet man and probably one of the most despicable men in history, the king of man right up Burr’s alley.
Back in 1939 in Australia, Burr played his first real “heavy.” He was a sensation as walked around with his employer’s head in a box in “Night Must Fall”. “From that moment, I was doomed to play rats,” Burr says happily. Fans will remember his as the sex maniac in “Pitfall” and the yellow lawyer in “Stations West ”.

公爵雖然中毒,但經名醫菲列甫的醫治,得慶生還,並在醫治的過程中,悟出他的新武器的 製法。便抱病策劃他的國防工作。加緊把大炮完成。
公主囘到家裏,才發覺當日暗殺她的丈夫的,完全是哥哥的陰謀,公爵沒有 責任。他便又囘到公爵那兒,解釋她要毒殺他的原因,乃純出誤會,一心想爲着王子復仇罷了。並把哥哥的軍事進行計劃,告訴公爵,並謂轉瞬便要災臨城下,公爵起初並不相信,下令把妻妻子擊獄,可是話猶未了,波支亞的軍隊果然到臨。公爵即把妻子赦免,夫妻兩人並肩作戰。
當公爵下令把城門打開的時候,使波支亞大爲驚異的是一尊大炮站在城中,以爲早已物化的公爵在旁指揮,自已的妹妹 倒變成敵人了。公生引火燃炮,隆然巨响,波支亞只見的軍隊人馬覆,死的死了,生的棄甲曳兵,落荒而逃。一炮定了大局。公爵治下的老百姓皆大歡喜,共視勝利,公爺和公主視杯,這一次大家也眞心誠意,共慶未來的幸福了。

Newest Heart-Throb Romantic John Lund, Now Woos Paulette.
John Lund, America’s newest heart-throb, admits his preference for “heavy”, so called “psychological parts, but because of his good looks and romantic appeal he hasn’t been given a chance to develop the heavy side of his screen personality. And from the looks of things, he never will.
Ever since his sensational debut in the dramatic triumph, “To Each His Own,” which won him instant public acclaim, Lund, under contract to Paramount, has been in demand as a romantic partner by every beauty on the lot. The handsome actor has certainly done all right by himself thus far, having played opposite Gail Russell in “Night Has a Thousand Eyes”; Jean Arthur and Marlene Dietrich in “A Foreign Affair”; Betty Hurron in “Perils of Pauline” and most recently opposite the petite new star, Wanda Hendrix in the laugh hit, “Miss Tatlock’s Millions.”
In all of those pictures Lund’s role was a straight romantic one but in his current Paramount melodrama, “Bride of Vengeance,” coming the King’s Theatre, he outdoes everything he has ever done in the way of screen amour.

In keeping with the popular demand for hard-hitting action melodrama, Columbia Pictures has produced “Mr District Attorney,” based on the radio program of the same name created by Phillips H Lord. The film, a rugged drama of six men and a girl.
According to advance reports on “Mr. District Attorney,” movie fans will find it a gripping murder mystery punch-packed with excitement and suspense.
Cast in the starring roles are Dennis O’Keefe, Adolphe Menjou, Marguerite Chapman and Michael O’Shea, while featured players include such well-known character actors as George Coulouris, Jeff Donnell, Steven Geray, Ralph Morgan and John Kellogg.
When District Attorney Craig Warren (Menjou) overhears young lawyer Steve Bennett (O’Keefe) refuse to handle the case of a dishonest client, he takes Bennett on as an assistant. They go to work in exposing the allegedly fraudulent manipulations of an organization fronted by suave James Randolph (Coulouris).
Randolph’s attractive secretary, Marcia Manning (Marguerite Chapman) agrees to help her boss by using “the woman’s touch” to keep Bennett occupied. She does her job so thoroughly that Steve falls in love with her and fails in his prosecution of Randolph in court.
In a short while, Steve quarrels with the D A. and joins forces with Randolph. But he is brought back to his senses by a startling chain of events leading to a violent climax.
From all we’ve heard about the film, the characterizations are unusually well-drawn with the entire cast coming in for high praise. Dennis O’Keefe’s is a sincere portrayal of the young awyer; Adolphe Menjou garners new raves for his hard-fighting, unselfish Mr D A.; Marguerite Chapman is brilliant in a “different” type of role. 格蘭福特以爲要進身影壇,百 分之九十要靠運氣,百分之十才是演技。但一日眞的進身影界,那此例就相反,有不少靑年向他探問「如何成爲一個伶人」,他總叫他們去向克勞特雷新和湯姆士馬哥去討敎,他以爲這兩個才是眞正的藝人,他自己是太不配爲師的。他雖有堅定的政治信仰,可是他從來不發政治議論。
他滿意於自己每一部片子中的角色,可是他還幢憬看一個更成功的劇本,他說:有「時候我覺得自己眞是一個了不起 的大人物,可是只要我翻伊麗娜的剪報簿,看一看她是如何地受觀衆愛戴,再看看她現在正在替我補衣服,洗碟子,我立刻感覺到自己的渺小,我想我的成就决不會超過她的」。

紀元一八八五年美國之各州間鬥爭,當一大隊軍在恐怖戰鬥中被封鎖在東南兩方時,在遠西作戰人土,欲維持或截斷聯合邦之資源,這故事乃取材于不著名之西方鬥爭史及卡羅拉杜和平史。
一隊在陸軍上校歐文指揮下之軍隊,正追擊一隊筋疲力竭之同盟軍,歐文 雖目階該軍巳高舉白旗,仍置不理,且命砲兵繼續開火,以獲其全軍覆沒,歐文摯友發現白旗,大吃一驚,乃用泥掩之。

全黄山鎭正等待英雄戰士們凱旋,歐文戴耳兩人所愛之賈羅 琳亦擁擠于羣衆間,三人相見歡喜莫名矣。
勝利舞會舉行時,戴耳向賈羅琳求婚,遭婉言拒絕,時歐亦向之求婚,並吻之,竟獲 賈連情焉。
是夜大星礦公司經理宣佈歐文被榮任爲卡羅拉杜領區區長,歐即聘戴耳爲警長焉。
歐文第一審判案爲礦工權利問題,退伍軍人要求戰前所應享之礦權仍作有效,而大星礦業公司因其停業三年而取消各項權利,審判長則贊同公司方面。
歐文 與賈羅琳公開結婚宣誓,礦務公司驛車遭洗劫,由受重傷之司機駕車囘報,戴耳組一民兵隊追剿,歐文亦堅持參加,賈力哥卒被歐所擒,歐正欲將之槍斃,但賈利用馬鞍手鞭鞭去其手槍戴耳等至,賈巳遁去矣。
賈秘密囘鎮徵集礦工參加搶切礦務公司,彼等行刼第一 步。先搶公司之保險箱,逃亡時殺死一守衛,賈同時亦受傷,賈同時受傷,遺下手槍,因槍靶上有賈弟奈之名,奈被誣守衛之謀殺人,歐不問案情竟將奈吊死,賈知,誓爲弟復仇。
戴耳知歐文之瘋狂貪殺慾,無法挽囘,乃辭去警長職,歐益可隨心所欲,似意志爲法 律,以同謀罪欲吊死若干賈奈之友,值千鈞一髮時,戴耳率隊救其全部出險。
歐文藉安茜設圈套陷害戴耳,謂歐虐待賈羅琳,戴 因愛凱心切,乃冒險往探,終被歐所捕,並將受吊刑。
梅醫生藉口法律上需替罪犯作醫事檢查,私携手槍一支助載耳越獄,賈對 丈夫巳完全不信任,令戴坐其馬車逃奈,歐見之,乃下令追之。
戴等躲藏於榮山鎮礦工區,歐搜查數日無效,乃出毒計焚燒全鎖 ,火燄彌漫,生靈塗炭,最後歐與賈等被逼而遇歐文於火建築物下,歐欲開槍殺之,賈力哥用其老武器——子——擊落其手槍,歐被撻尖叫,如獸奉跑,毀滅於火燒建築物下。

“Dear To My Heart”
“So Dear To My Heart” is not only the most appealing story Walt Disney ever had produced in colour by Technicolor, but it is also his most unique offering in that its delightful live-action ties in strikingly with his customary all-cartoon animations. It deals with familiar reality instead of fantasy.
It is the story of a recollected boyhood out of the heartland of America a generation ago, and is packed with emotion and treasured remembrance; filled with the gaiety, songs and dances, and with the sentiment of its time and place in Indiana. It deals simply and stirringly with the adventures of young Jeremiah Kincaid, a country lad, and spirited contest of wills between him and his austere grandma which involves the whole neighbourhood and the fate of a rambunctious black ram foundling.
The cartoon sequences all are applied to the motivation of the boy, played by Bobby Driscoll.
Beulah Bondi plays Granny Kincaid, who teaches the boy his manners and his morals; Burl Ives is the village Smith and family friend who champions the lad in times of stress, and who sings the haunting songs which gives so much grace to the drama; little Luana Patten is the loyal comrade, who shares experiences with the headstrong Jeremiah and his black ram, and Harry Carey, is seen as the sage judge of livestock and human nature.
Disney based the picture upon Sterling North’s story. RKO destributes the film.

Colorful County Fair Scenes Enliven “Dear To My Heart”.
Trotting races have again become a great American passion and pastime.
Log cabin quilts are being stitched again.
The pleasant reek of prize stock pens rises annually under gala flags in the County Fairs in every one of the United States.
Merry-go-rounds and thrill-ride machines, popcorn stands and cider mill, shooting gallery and dance pavilion exert their ancient spell at the County Fairs.
Moreover, the County Fair is a focal point and highlight in Walt Disney’s “So Dear to My Heart”, colour by Technicolor, picturing the life and adventures of a rural boy of a generation ago, interpreted in cartoon and live action.
The Pike County Fair, in Brown County, Indiana, as Sterling North describes it in his book from which the Disney picture is derived, awards a prize blue ribbon to the young boy of the story for making a champion of a discarded little black ram lamb, thus “doing the best he could with what he had” to confirm the theme of the story.
County Fair scenes, with all their colour and excitement, culminate a clash of wills between young Jeremiah Kincaid and his austere but lovable Granny Kincaid, whose problem was to raise the boy.
The action, predominantly by livings players, although there is some cartoon animation to embellish the main narrative, is centered upon Bobby Driscoll, Disney’s 11 year old star, as the ambitious, headstrong farm lad; Beulah Bondi, as the pious but practical grandma; Burl Ives, as the village blacksmith who sings half a dozen new songs especially written for the picture; Harry Carey (in his last role) as a shrewed Judge of livestock and human nature, and Luana Patten, the devoted comrade of Jeremiah in all the boy’s adventures.
Hundreds of extra players bring authentic atmosphere and interesting bits to the action. The story of fond recollection is told via the voice X who was the boy一out of his family X and scrapbook, in animated cartoon treatment. It is rich in music as well as humour and tenderness and the nostalgic note of the American scene of a recent yesterday.

「靈暖臺春暖」同時是一部偉大的音樂片子。配的音樂由名音樂家保羅史蔑夫担任。內有歌曲入闋,兩 闋是流行的民歌六闋是新撰之作,俱悠揚動聽却易于上口的。高興歌曲的人。一定更高興這部片子。猶以主題歌「心中寶貝」爲值得介紹。
這部長凡七千三百餘尺的片子,在放映的八十二分鐘的時間裡,可以說道沒有一小節片子一分鐘不是動人的。全世界的觀衆也 懂得領略那部深入淺出富于人情味的傑作,迪斯尼的一番心血不算白花了。

Family Album Acts In
Disney Musical
While the direct story of Walt Disney’s current feature film, “So Dear to My Heart”,is told in live action, there is also the traditional Disney cartoon animation to embellish the romantic narrative, all in colour by Technicolor. The animation serves to picture the boy’s reflections as he thumbs through the family album and treasure book, while the narrator—representing that same boy now grown to manhood-relates what happened.
In this fashion the album opens to start the tale, to the accompaniment of the title song, “So Dear to My Heart.” In animation the wise Old Owl comes to “life” as the boy substitutes the picture of his little black lamb for that of the race horse, Dan Patch, as the new idol of his boyhood. The Owl and the cartoon version of the boy’s pet ram, go through a droll daydream scene until reality again is resumed by living actors.
Another vivid animation scene has the Owl inspire the boy with examples of courage and venturesome ambition, citing Christopher Columbus and Robert Bruce and the spider as examples, in the scrapbook scenes.
A County Fair fantasy again shows the Wise Old Owl and the prize black ram enjoying a gay time, in animation, with scenes evoked from gala postcards and trophies of days now faded into the time to youth. And finally, there is the cartooned brief epilogue as the hand of the man-who-was the-boy closes the aged album, with its special award ribbon betokening that the youngster has indeed “made” something dependable from what he “had—an animal of merit from a discarded lamb, and the foundation for own adjusted adult life.
The black sheep is a live animal for the main story action, and a cartoon character only for the animation interludes.

An action-jammed historical adventure yarn set in the lawless period of the Southwest following the War Between the States “South of St. Louis,” filmed in Technicolor, soon comes to the King’s Theatre headed by a four-star cast including Joel McCrea, Alexis Smith, Zachary Scott and Dorothy Malone. The picture is a United States Pictures Production released by Warner Bros.
Besides the quartet of stars, Victory Jory, Alan Hale, Douglas Kennedy, Art Smith, Bob Steele, Monte Blue and Paul Maxey are featured. Ray Enright directed. Milton Sperling produced.
“South of St. Louis” was the no-man’s land of the Civil War it was that vast area of Texas and the Southwest in which for the most part, the war was fought on both sides. The film depicts the taut, personal drama of three hard-riding men of the range, set against the violent background of the open spaces. Smuggling was rampant then and the reckless tempo of the time made life exciting and dangerous.
McCrea play Kip Davis whose purpose in the lusty tale is to restore the ranching land burned and pillaged by guerrillas in Union hire. Miss Smith departs from her usual roles to that of a flamboyant entertainer of the old west. As Rouge de Lisle, this beautiful blone star displays a completely new side, to her talents. Zach Scott plays a cowboy, not exactly a new role, as he hails from Texas and spent many of his younger years on a ranch. Miss Malone completing the roster of stars, is cast as Deboran, who is loved by McCrea but who loves another.
Most of the film was shot on “location,” at the Warner ranch in Calabasas, California, at Victoryille and in the San Fermando valley. Some of the greatest action spectacle scenes to be filmed last year were made, with a great cast, scores of horses, in western panoramic settings enhanced by gorgeous Technicolor.

「雁鈴三俠」寫的是美國南北戰事尙未結 束,在僻隅的西南地帶,政府鞭長夏及,法治的組織還在搖籃,一切也無法無天,土豪之流,XX一方,發展他們的勢力,擄掠刼奪的事情司空見慣,最足維持一個人的安全和私利的只有手裡的槍枝。男人都是冒險家,女人由愛他的男人加以照料。事故是時常也可以發生的,有些人正靠製造亂子,才維持了他們的生活。像那樣的時代那樣的背境爲題材的片子,永遠是充滿了剌激和緊張的動作的。
荷 理活每年也拍製不少那樣的公部片,却有着好劣之分。「雁鈴三俠」有它的出類拔萃的地方,只爲題材是經過愼重的選擇的,華納决心把它製爲超特的出品,不惜多下工本。好劍本找到了,便分派給下的一等紅星多名,分別担演片子中的重要戲,那張演員表除了祖麥基利之外,還有妖媚動人的女主角阿歷絲史莫芙,溫柔貞靜的多魯菲美倫,分任片中的女主角。絕對不同的兩種個性,各有可取的地方。「三俠」的其餘兩個重要角色由少年英俊的沙加利史葛和德格拉斯堅尼地分任。在一切之上,這片乃由七彩攝成——特別够燦爛悦目的進步七彩。
劇情的大意是寫大戰時候,祖麥基利,沙加利史葛和德格拉斯堅尼地也囘到故鄕,一心把荒蕪的家園整頓起來,免落在强佔的 土豪的手裡。他們的革靴上也各繫雁鈴作記,把他們的農莊叫三鈴農莊。徒來見時勢仍在動盪當中的,種植的事無甚可爲,堅尼地到軍隊裡服務去了。祖麥基利在一家賭館裡認識了歌伶阿歷絲史蔑芙,她表面賣唱爲生,實際上幹的却是私運軍火的勾當。於是祖麥基利和史葛也加入了她的勾當。麥基利的愛人美倫一向也不贊成他過的冒險生涯,失望之餘,當女看護的工但去了,可是他却吿訴她說他需要找那一匹錢,作爲建立的根基,錢弄到了手,他便洗手不幹了。走運軍火的利潤可觀,不料却和土豪的域陀佐利結下了更深的怨恨。朋友之間,他和史葛因財失義,弄出許多麻煩來了。美倫後來更索性嫁給比較安定的堅尼地。留下了一個傷心失意的麥基利,由史蔑芙把他招料,最後是經過一塲更大的變幻,三個老朋友才又聯結在一塊兒和歹徒搏鬥。史葛丟了性命。麥基利放棄了他的走私勾當,和情深一往的史蔑芙結婚。
「雁鈴三俠」動作多於一切,打鬥的塲面兇得很,祖麥基利和沙利史葛的做工優秀如昔。阿歷絲史蔑芙表現外表放蕩,內 心寂寞的「壞」女人的個性,動人之至,她並在片子裡唱了幾支動人的歌曲。

Biography Of David
Niven,The Star Of “South Of St. Louis”
Born of a French mother and a Scottish father, David Niven was christened for the Saint’s Day on which he was born, March 1st. 1910. He was born at Kirriemuir, Angus, and was sent to Stowe, then a new Public School. From there he entered the regular army, through Sandhurst, taking a commission in the highland Light Infantry in 1928. He served in Malta.
After overseas service he found peactime soldiering in England far from exciting and, after trying it for two years resigned his commission and sailed for Canada. There he did all the jobs that young men in similar circumstances have done before and since. He worked on a newspaper, on bridge construction, was a waiter, a barman. After six months of doing everything, the decided to try the U.S.A. Following the sun, he spent some time beachcombing in Bermuda and Havana. Cuba was having the usual revolution and, as it appeared to be anybody’s fight, David joined in on both sides! This was exciting until the British Consul gave him twenty minutes to get out of the country. He wound up in Santa Barbara and in a poor financial state.
In the light of his subsequent success it is interesting that he always comforted himself, when reaching rock bottom, that if all else failed he could always be an actor. Inevitably he turned to Hollywood, going through the usual drill of the unknown and uninitiated. He applied at the contral casting bureau and found himself on the list as “English Type 2008”. The first 2007 made for heavy competition, so he worked for two years an an extra, supplementing his income by working as deckland on a swordfish boat.
In spite of his modest profession, David became a great social success, which led to meetings with the great and a contract from Sam Goldwyn. This did not mean stardom overnight but years of hard work. His first line, in “Barbary Coast,” was delivered in a Cockney accent. It was: “All right, I’ll go,” and it went into the trailer. His next success aws a one-liner, too: “Hello, my dear, 'to Elissa Landi, followed by “Good-bye,me dear”,to Ruth Chatterton. During the time he was in B pictures the late Doug. Fairbanks did all he could to help him, but it was his attractive personality that led to his first real chance as an actor, in “Dodsworth.” This was followed by Prisoner of Zenda” and “Dawn Patrol,” and then he was established. Bob Cummings Used An English Accent To Achieve First Success On Stage
Some day an alert Hollywood producer is going to cash in the amazing life story of Robert Cummings, and make himself a pretty sensational motion picture. Cummings’ career, in and out of films, has been as hectic as any yet recorded in the annals of Hollywood.
Currently Bob can be seen in the Triangle film, “Sleep, My Love”, in which he is co-starred with Claudette Colbert and Don Ameche. Mary Pickford, Charles Buddy Rogers and Ralph Cohn produced it, with United Artists releasing. It is coming to the King’s Theatre.
Bob was born in Joplin, Missouri, the son of a doctor. Although aviation was his first love, he decided that the stage was the place where he wanted to earn his living. At the beginning he found making the Broadway grade tough sledding. At this period British actors were greatly in demand, so Bob went over to England where he took a bicycle trip through the countryside acquiring a clipped British accent as he went.
Upon his return to the States, Bob not only sported a broad “a” but a new name also- Blade Stanhope Conway. It didn ’t take long for this bogus English actor to get a part in Galsworthy’s play, “The Roof”. A succession of roles followed, climaxed by a part in the Ziegfield Follies.
The old yearning for new fields to conquer again cropped up, and when Bob heard that King Vidor was searching for a real Texan for “So Red the Rose”, Blade Stanhope Conway suddenly became Brice Hutchins, from deep in the heart of Texas. Before he knew what was happening, King Vidor had a new leading man. After a series of pictures with Paramount, the Brice Hutchins character exploded and Bob once more assumed his own identity.
When he played in “Three Smart Girls Grow Up”, starring Deanna Durbin, Cummings was launched on an entirely new career- that of a romantic hero. Universal signed him to a contract and he was cast in such hits as “The Devil and Miss Jones” “Saboteur” and “Forever and a Day.” Other outstanding films in which he has appeared are “King’s Row” “Princess O’Roukie” “The Chase” and “Heaven Only Knows.”
During the war Bob became a flyer, and towards the end he was a flight instructor. Ha was given a leave of absence from his duties as flight instructor so that he might accept the lead in a picture concerning flyers- “You Came Along”.
For the vital statistics record: Cummings is 6 feet, one inch tall, weighs 179 pounds, has blue eyes and brown hair. He is married to the former Mary Elliot, and they have a small son.
Buddy Rogers writes new song for “Sleep, My Love.
Buddy Robers and Rudy Schrager have collaborated in the writing of a new song, “Sleep, My Love” which has been used as the theme song of the picture of that title which Rogers produced in collaboration with his wife, Mary Pickford, and Ralph Cohn.
“Sleep, My Love” co-stars Claudette Colbert, Robert Cummings and Don Ameche. It is coming to the King's Theatre through United Artists release.
Stand-in gets chance to act with Claudette Colbert meets herself coming and going in her latest film, “Sleep My Love,” which is coming to the King’s Theatre through United Artists release. Miss Colbert’s stand-in, Carol Deane, plays one scene with the star, the first screen role she playyed in their seven years' association. They play together in an airliner sequence, with Claudette as the passenger and Carol as the passenger and Carol as an air hostess who engages her in conversation.

「海棠春睡」“Sleep My Love”是那一對恩愛夫妻合作的結晶品,瑪利辟福年青時候飲譽至隆,全美國的電影女明星,她佔第一位。到了她離開銀幕,却仍不忘懷電影事業,便投資做製片工作。查理羅渣氏便來幫他的太太的。有時在片中參加演出;他本來當過著名樂隊的領班,深懂樂理,於是他有時替那些片子撰些樂曲,製配音的譜,有時担任助理監製的工作。「海棠春睡」的歌,便是他的傑作,一部份配的音樂,也是他親自指揮樂隊演奏的。

當阿美曹的死我X看得多少,倒很少見到他演反派的。大家也應該來瞧瞧他這一部傑作,他演的那麼 好,不但和歌露拔是一對好搭檔,更証明了他是個全能的演員,允文允武,正派和反派戲也一般勝任愉快的。
「海棠春睡」好在 不落俗套,別有它的一派風格,全部戲由開始到結束的一幕也充滿了緊張刺激的氣氛。甘明斯也相當優秀,雖然演戲的機會比較少,却一定演得很好。性格演員羅富摩根飾醫生一角,得一穩字,夏素布祿絲是銀幕上的新妖婦,他的歌喉,她的苗條體態,加上她的天生妖媚的眉眼,她注定了要做一個銀幕上的標準蕩婦。

Chinese Wedding Scene
The Orient and Orientals aren’t what they used to be. The old saying about the East and the West doesn’t hold true either, and living proof of the fact evinced in Hollywood where the East and the West do actually meet.
In one of the colorful scenes of Triangle’s initial production, “Sleep, My Love”, co-stars Claudette Colbert and Robert Cummings are wedding guests at the mairriage ceremonies of Keye Luke and his Oriental bride, Maria San Marco.
For the festive occasion, Diretor Douglas Sirk engaged a good portion of the Los Angeles Chinese Colony to act as wedding guests and to participate in the actual ceremony itself. Then it was discovered that the members of the Los Angeles Chinese Colony were not quite “hep on” what they were supposed to do at the wedding and what form their participation ought to take.
So Director Douglas Sirk had to hire Frank Tang, an expert on Chinese tradtions, customs and lore, as technical advisor on the picture- teaching the Chinese how to act like Chinese.
“Sleep, My Love” was produced by March Pickford, Charles Buddy Rogers and Ralph Cohn. It is tense, romantic drama set in New York’s fashionable Sutton Place section. United Artists is releasing the film, which is coming to the King’s Theatre. Others in the cast beside Miss Colbert and Mr. Cummings are Don Ameche, also in a starring role, and George Couloruis, Rita Johnson, Hazel Brooks, Keye Luke and Ralph Morgan in important featured parts.
Maria San Marco, who plays the role of the Chinese bride, was born in the Philippine Islands and, when war came to the Pacific, was imprisoned by the Japs. After two years, she escaped and came to America. Her first film appearance was in “Anna and the King of Siam”, her second in “Intrigue,” and third in “Sleep, My Love”.

袁俊的成名,是在他從英國學成歸來,連寫了「小城故事」,「邊城故事」,「山城故事」幾個劇作以後。 他從事第一部影片的導演工作是「還鄕日記」,在這劇作中他的處現手法還顯得生疏,但在第二部「乘龍快壻」裡,他已有着令人不敢小覷的成績。「火葬」是他加人永華公司,集中我國銀壇第一流優秀演員,運用永華全部美式配備最新型的器材,商極有計劃與歩驟地拍攝而成,演片的成績,自然會令我們想像到有超出國產片一般水準的成就。

「火葬」的故事,是以反封建爲主題,背景是北方落後的農村,出現在這部片中的人物,有明艷溫婉的少婦,英俊 硬朗的漢子,守節撫孤的老婦,覬覦家產的族叔,地瘩流氓無賴漢等,由這羣人的活動,表現出殘存封建努力籠罩下的北方農村種種色色,特別是「小丈夫」惡習的殘酷不人道。
劇情的大意是:若干年前北方某處的農村裡,孟家酒店己十三楊小掌櫃孟長春(牛犇飾 ),迎娶了一個正在青春期的少婦雙喜(白歲飾),當她被迎娶過門的時候,有一個久的垂液她的流氓賴三(王斑飾)率領着羣小去搶花轎,路遇一個名叫展大鵬(陶金飾)的出面解了圍,孟家爲了感激他,就留他在家居住,雙喜嫁了這個小丈夫,已經受够人們的嘲笑,爽直軒昂的展大鵬,成了她感情宣洩的對象。展大鵬本是一個孑然一身的流氓漢,靠流動各村做買賣爲生,他和十娼黑翠(呂恩飾)相熟,黑翠見他和雙喜感情日佳,就散佈很多間話,企圖拆散他們,大鵬和雙喜,漸漸也感非設法解决不可,結果未能如願,竟從火自焚身亡。(洵)

人世間設多悲劇的演出,往往由於社會上不良的習俗而起,這種形式各異的不良的習俗,幾乎彌漫着人世的每個角落裡,本片所述就是一個例子。
在北方一些落後閉塞的農村裡,常有着X種「小 丈夫」制度,因爲家中需要成年的女人來協助家務和服役勞動,或是老寡婦用以抵抗X人的覬覦財產,往往使尙在童年時期的兒子,迎候一個超過年齡一兩倍以上的女子來作媳婦,X劇就日此產生。
若干年前北方某處的一個農村裡,在十娼X翠的下處,土豪賴三爲 了單戀東村美女雙喜,不能順利到手,正喝着悶酒,他手下幾個無賴,跑進來吿訴他,雙喜將要嫁給孟家酒店的小掌櫃盂長春,這消息對頼三等於一個晴天霹雷,使他又傷心又悲憤,再加上這幫爪牙們的從恿,他們决定在送親途上,攔搶親。
正當搶花橋得手的當兒 ,一個在城鎭間作販運生意的英俊少年展大鵬,趕着騾車術過來,他是一個硬漢,馬上便來打拘不平,三拳兩脚,把這羣流氓打得鼠竄而去。
花橋放了下來,送親的行列繼續前進,孟家總算把這花朵般的小媳婦娶了進門,當時小丈夫長春,在一陣熱烈的歡聲下,强 制執行挑去了新娘領上的紅方巾,大鵬一見新娘月貌花容果眞不凡,心弦己在動彈,同時盂奶奶怕這班流氓再來囉,想把長春拜了大鵬作寄父,可是大鵬堅决不肯,結果長春爲弟,并且拜了孟奶奶作乾媽,從此大鵬成了孟家的上賓,嘗到從未有過的溫暖。
一個尙不 懂人事的孩子,娶了了正在青春期的少婦,春花秋月,自是等閒度過,雙喜的心坎深處,有着極難宣洩的苦悶,又看見展大鵬年青,力壯,能幹,體貼,日子一久,使他倆茁丁愛苗,情慾也一进發了出來,就像風勢勢虎虎中的火燄,耐止不住,更壓刷不住。
後來展 大鵬因受不了苦戀的折磨,和良心的責備,决定離開孟家,有一天晚上,當他將拔開門栓的時候,雙喜忽暗跟上來把他手按住,將大鵬在幽會時遺留在她房內的一雙鞋子交還給大鵬,大鵬一見雙喜,這鐵打般的漢子就又氣餒了,他們遂計議在陪同長春朝山進香謝神還願的時候,覷個機會私奔他鄕,好長久得廝守着。
這個日夜進盼着的日子終於到來了,他們套了騾車,陪着長春進香,在長春伏神案前 叩首的當兒,大鵬和雙喜暗暗離去,將要走上騾車,黑翠早有準備,這時她突然和孟家酒店傭工的小扣子趕來,大鵬和雙喜便不敢上車,急急地走上山崖向小路奔去。
小路崎嶇難行,他倆心理又急又怕,翻過山頭後,雙喜實在走不動了,長春向佛像摩頂禮拜後,抬 頭不見大鵬和雙喜,長春沒法四處問訊,又被人調侃奚落了一陣,說他的媳婦被人拐走了。於是他一路喊着真大哥姊姊追了上來,這時,雙喜受不了命運的播弄,縱身欲跳山崖,被大鵬一把搶抱住,長春以爲他倆棲一處,忘記一切很天眞的照着進香人的口吻喊出了大哥拐走了他的媳婦,大鵬想阻止他,長春還在拍手跳躍,不料他站立石脚下的石頭不穩,偶一不愼翻跌倒崖下斃命。
長春旣夭折,孟家 的本族中便來覬覦這份在鄕間算得上殷實的財產,孟奶奶支吾了過去,在這時孟奶奶正在病中,她時常在想,雙喜有志守節,大鵬仍舊留在孟家裡襄助居務。然而,大鵬心貧疚日深,長春生前的音宿笑貌,也常像幻影般地出現他的眼前,使他日趨陰鬱,這樣也有幾個月不出門去作生意。黑翠來看了他一次,對他一次對他冷嘲熱譏,把他挑怒起來,大聲呼喝把她逐X了出去,黑翠在妒恨交織中,準備用毒計來對付大鵬和雙喜。
當盂奶奶病將復原,雙呢巳懷有身孕,這予大鵬以深刻的剌激,爲免事情敗露起見」大鵬採取了斷然的行動, 他瘋狂也似的奔向街市,買了包毒藥,偷偷地放在孟奶奶的藥罐子裡,準備將孟奶奶毒死後,他們就可自由了。這時,抱病躺在床上的孟奶奶,她深恐她自己一病不起,怕族人來爭產,所以特地把雙呢和大鵬喚到床前,告他們已經託人立了字據,在她死了之後,這份家當由雙喜和大鵬對分,說完便端起藥來欲飲,大鵬良心未泯,急上去把孟奶奶手中的藥碗打掉,說出他巳在藥中下了毒藥,雙喜也說出她腹中也有了兩個月身孕,這些事情太出乎孟奶奶的意料之外了,X不起一急,心病腹發猝然死去了。
這些事的經過,竟被黑翠偸聲去 ,立刻跑出與小扣子鳴鑼集衆,蜂擁到盂家店來懲治這對判逆的男女,大鵬和雙喜倆到了這個上天無路入地無門的時候,便在草房內縱火自焚,他們緊緊她依偎着,火燄逐漸呑吞噬了孟家酒店,他倆便犧牲在這因襲的不良習俗之下了。
「火葬」導演袁俊
如果你曾到永華攝影塲,留心一下指揮演員的舵手,那個况默寡言,性格堅定,有着哥登克雷作風的,就是—導演袁俊。
他出身是我國名學府淸華大學,不過在同學錄中你是找不到「袁俊」 這名字的,他的原名是張駿祥。他出洋留學是公費,是那年戲劇部門數十人中唯一被錄取的學生,在國外他學的是編導,與黄佐臨是同學。歸國後執教國立劇專,寫過極有系統的導演論,介紹許多歐美派的戲劇學說,同時又以袁俊這筆名寫運很多劇本,有「小城故事」,「邊城及事」,「山城故事」,「萬世師表」,「美國總統號」以故改編作「富貴浮雲」。
最早介紹張駿祥劇作是佐臨,由於同學 的關係,佐臨進上海劇藝就排他的早期作品「小城故事」,一個染有外國風味的劇本,雖沒有怎樣的轟動上海,不過袁俊這兩個字,總算已經列入了戲劇圈。
繼「小城故事」以後,佐臨又替上海劇藝社排「邊城故事」,這個劇本巳較前有了進步,加上優秀演員的全 力合作,終於使袁俊的名字,在戲劇圈裡響了起來。
抗戰時期,袁俊在内地也是很走紅的,不但國立劇專的導演,而且領導過劇 團,于是他在劇壇上的地位一天比一天高了。
袁俊是走編導的路子的,幹編導的非要有優秀演員才能使劇作生輝,於是當白楊同 他合作時,他終于用「情感一俘虜這個不覊的野馬,使她成爲他太太。
他感化人的力量是相當大的,白楊毅然擺脫過去的不健康 作風,把私生活嚴肅起來,思想前進,肯多看書,不是好劇本不拍,似乎全是受了他思想的感染。
勝利以後,他帶領「中電」劇 團來滬,演過他自己作品「萬世師表」,由於這一劇作,袁俊獻出他的全力因此,成績是非常的美蟈,給上海戲劇界很震驚。
由 於袁俊是「中電」秘書關係,終于分配到導演影片的機會,開始拍他的處女作「還鄉日記」。
「還鄕日記」是令人失望的,主要 是這個劇本缺乏眞實性。在這次失敗後,他沒有灰心,他的第一部作品「乘龍快婿」,已令人刮目相看了。
「火葬」是他第三部 作品,他有着湛深的影劇理論基礎,再加上他在攝影塲所獲的實踐經驗,復肯探索,肯硏究,他在這部「火葬」片中,到千幾個高潮的控制,全劇農村氣氛的把握,都明現了處理手法的優秀與有著嶄新的創造,這証顥他是已步入成功的途徑。(雲)
閒話「火葬」
白揚,陶金,呂恩三大紅星主演的「火葬」,是一部以北方農村爲背景的佳片,當這部影片完成,在永華公司不公開的試映後,白揚自己爲這是她在戰後所主演的幾部影片中最令她滿意的一部。
北國的宮闕,垂柳,駝鈴,鶴聲,不少人在夢寢縈懷着吧,在這部「火葬」中,我看見嵯峨的X堞,跨着沉重闊步的駱駝,妙峯山朝香出會的盛况踩高蹻,唱X戲……這些景像,生長在北國的人們,在此異鄕爲異客中當不無「不堪囘首月明中!」之感。
婚喪喜慶, 各地有各地的習俗,在這部片中,有北方一部份落後農村至今還保持着的濃重東方色彩的形式,白揚披戴着鳳冠霞帳,一塊紅巾把臉面深深地垂遮着,十三歲的小丈夫牛,馬袍馬褂,胸前交義着花紅彩綢,頭戴紅頂瓜皮小帽,用一把秤顫微微地將白揚的紅巾揭起,猥瑣地與他這年歲幾大一倍的媳婦坐並在坑上。
陶金雖是蘇州人,因了上幾代在京服官的關係,也等於在北方落了戶,他的令堂大人一向 在故都安居,陶金乘「火葬」在北平拍攝的機會,得暢叙天倫之樂,羨煞不少這片外景隊的工作人員。
「火葬」的導演袁俊,是 北名學府「淸華」出身,從中學至大學,勾留在北平多年,故都在他不啻爲第二故鄕,這片的置景秦威,是道地的北平人,從小之長,至於斯,與於斯,因此,秦威在這戲中的設計與置景,袁俊在演戲中所傳達出來的北國鄕土氣氛,十分的濃郁逼眞,令觀衆如置身處地在北方的農村裡!
有一位文藝批評X看完了這片的試映後對袁俊說:「火葬」這戲有三絕:一是編導的處理手法絕妙,二是演員的演 技絕好,三是傳達出的鄕土氣氛絕眞!」
呂恩是戰後新星中的翹楚,飾演風騷潑辣的女人是擅長,她在這片中飾演陶金的情婦, 爲了半路擠進個溫婉明艷的白揚,而與陶金大打出手,嘜功硬功一齊施展,演來有聲有色,令入叫絕!
在「火葬」中,我們發現 了一個新的童星,他的國語純流正利,演技熟練自然,他飾演白楊的小丈夫孟長春,那副可笑又可憐的樣子,令觀衆從憐憫中生出同情。他的名字叫牛,圈裡的人叫他「小牛子」,是名演員謝添在中電三廠時發掘出來的,袁俊到北平拍攝「火葬」外景時,謝添把他鄭重介紹,結果一鳴驚人。(環)
BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE
Scottish Music & Dances:
“Bonnie Prince Charlie”
“Bonnie Prince Charlie,” starring David Niven and Margaret Leighton, which is coming to the King’s Theatre, contains a grand display of Scottish music and diancing, for the Prince himself was as gay as he was bonnie, and delighted in the songs and reels of his loyal clansmen.
Director Anthony Kimmins engaged the greatest experts in both lines.
Pipe Major Macdonald Murray, leading a band of Scottish is been in two traditional dances in the Derby barn scenes. One, a sword dance, is to the tune of “Ghillie Callum,” the other is the famous “Reel of Tullock,” which was always danced to celebrate a victory.
Another Pipe Major, the well-known Ian Macdonald, who has a collection of manuscripts of Jacboite songs and is an expert bagpipe player, was called in to supervise the background music. Among the popular tunes which will be heard fleetingly are “Charlie, he’s my Darling,” “My King has landed in Moidart,” “Macrimmon’s Lament,” “Ghillie Callum, ” “Lochiel’s Welcome,” and Somebody.”
In Technicolor the magnificence of the tartans comes cut in full splendour as the dancers leap and turn in the superb swagger of the reel. With the classic swing of the kilt and romantic skirl of the pipes, these scenes are a veritable feast of colour and movement.
日月精忠
Riding The Scree: Bonnie PrinceCharlie
One of the most exciting scenes in the film, “Bonnie Prince Charlie,” with David Niven in the title role and co-starring Margaret Leighton, was filmed 2,000 ft. up in the middle of The Three Sister mountain in Glencoe. In this London Film, directed by Anthony Kimmins, the whole campaign in which Prince Charlie led his gallant Highlanders in 1745 is thrillingly depicted in Technicolor. The actual settings and battles were carefully and accurately filmed, but some of the feats performed by the tough eighteenth century clansmen were difficult indeed.
One of these feats of Prince Charlie’s army was to “Ride the scree. ” Mountaineers describe this as glissading down a mountainside which is covered with loose stones. For these scenes men were specially chosen from the Scottish Mountaineering Club, but even these skilled athletes could not ride the scree with bare feet, as Prince Charlie’s men had done. These modern mountaineers had to wear camouflaged shoes!
The excitement of such scenes can well be imagined, the shouts of the attacking Highlanders, the Kaleidoscopic effect of so many tartans rushing to the attack, the thunder of the loose stones as they charge down the scree!
歷史巨片「日月精忠」
堂皇偉大,七彩豪華
娛樂戲院鄭重介紹它的觀衆 一部非看不可的歷史七彩巨片。自有七彩片和歷史古裝片以來,「日月精忠」無疑是最偉大的一部了。主角正是「平步靑雲」「主敎之妻」等片的大衛尼雲。這個被譽爲捨郞奴高路文以外再無他人的大明星,在本片中飾演一位出生入死,力圖復國的流亡王子。
兵刄 相接的屠殺性的大戰,溫馨旖旖的兒女私情,如火茶如的愛國運動,哀艷頑絕的死別生離。「日月」精忠包含一頁可歌可泣的故事,動人之深,無以復加。
這部由大導演安東尼全棉斯嘔心瀝血而成的傑作寫的是一七四五年的時代漂亮王子查理士力謀復辟的故事。大 衛尼雲飾那位勇敢驚險的王子,如花似玉的瑪格烈禮頓飾他的紅顔知己科羅娜麥當奴,讀史的人都知道她拯救了王子的性命,幫忙他逃出蘇格蘭。這經過是怎樣子的呢?一九四五年,王子查理士史超活想着推翻英皇佐治第二,恢復自己的寶座。他帶了七位隨從親信潛囘蘇格蘭,向擁護他的國人活動,招得勤王人馬。不幸在克萊墩一役大戰,却全軍覆滅,遭慘殺敗了。查理士王子僅以身免,只好到處找藏身之所,躱避捕的官兵。可是圍捕者重重,不只爲王了要搜尋子,還希望得到了佐治第二的可觀的懸紅。過了多天的流動亡命生活,在一個危險得很的關頭,他碰到了科羅娜。科羅娜慧眼識英雄,她結果把他打救了。不只幫他跑出了搜捕者的重圍,並幫他逃出大陸,準備捲土重來。讀史的人時常也懷疑查理士王子與科羅娜之間,是否發生了戀愛,有一個頗長的時間他們是獨在一塊兒的,在山嶺水涯的秘密地方他們朝夕相對,禍福與共的並肩和惡劣的環境爭鬥,他們兩個都是極端漂亮的人物,愛上了也是人之常情,何况她芳心裡崇拜王子的英勇,王子也感激她的義氣幫呢。
「日月精忠」的外景全部根據史實,在查理士王子當年避難的地方實地拍製的。蘇格蘭原野的美麗風 內,盡量收入鏡内。大衛尼雲的天才,在本片裡盡量表現無遺。明星當中,也難找第二個人,更適合查理士王子的個性,他的淡刻做工,直堪擊節讚賞。
本院極力推荐這部片子,爲了它的眞實的偉大。戰前那樣好出品已屬的罕見,戰後更應語視爲奇了珍。「日月精 忠」的成本倘以金鎊的數字說明,那簡直是個龐大的天文數字。本片的演員,除了男女主角之外,都是歐美電影和舞台界的名伶,表演一律不失身份。
本片的戰景也屬空前偉大,連營十里,劍戟如林,動員閒角五六千人,才完成了戰爭的一塲大戲。服裝佈景,倶經 專家們謹愼考古設計,一絲不苟的保留着十八世紀的空氣。花在這方面的錢,佔去成木的重大部份。
悲壯激昂,轟轟烈烈的「日 月精忠」是今年度最偉大的歷史彩片,請留心我們的放映日期,萬勿錯過。
“Intrigue”, New Raft Film, Is Tense Drama
Those addicts of the George Raft type of highly keyed, taut drama with a thoughtful content will welcome his latest film, “Intrigue.”
The story of an ex-Army flier who is sucked into black market operations in food in post-World War II Shanghai features Raft as the protagonist, June Havoc as the blonde enchantress who lives by her wits and off the proceeds of the food manipulators, and that charming newcomer, Helena Carter, as a hostess in a Red Cross canteen.
In the supporting cast are three of the most sinister-appearing characters Hollywood has produced in many a day: dulcet-toned radio announcer Marvin Miller whose face belies his voice; Dan Seymour, and Egypt’s favourite romantic hero, Hassan Ezzat, who is the Western World’s prototype of villainy. Tom Tully plays a newspaperman with the proverbial nose £or news and the guts to follow it into many a precarious situation.
“Intrigue” has many novel facets to it. It represents its star, George Raft's first venture into actual production, the first of three films he and Sam Bischoff will co-produce for United Artists release. And it marks the fifth time Raft has worked under the direction of Edwin L. Marin whom he personally selected to megaphone this and his future co-produced films.
In addition it registers June Havoc's success at talking the motion picture minds out of casting her in strictly cheese-cake roles. She has been aiming at dramatic stature for some time and finally gave up Hollywood in disgust to appear on Broadway as a thespian rather than a “Bumper” and a “Bumper” and a “grider,” as the film capitol seemed to feel Gypsy Rose Lee’s sister had to be. Raift lured her back to the West Coast with the offer of the starring feminine role in “Intrigue.”
Miss Havcc has put thumbs down on all cheesecake poses and X throughout the film in evening gowns without once giving the audience a glimpse of her famous, shapely legs.
And Raft, who has a reputation for gambling on new talent, signed up Helena Carter, who had only two small parts in “Something in the Wind” and “Time Out of Mind” to her credit, for the second stellar feminine part.
The fact that “Intrigue” is set in present-day Shanghai required so many Chinese actors that the Raft-Bischoff film used up every available Oriental thespian and would-be thespian in the environs,of Hollywood, including the city’s one Korean actor who plays the part of a Chinese. And Marin was still so desperately in need of additional players that Phillip Ahn, the Korean, enlisted the aid of his brother, Philson Ahn, a research engineer for Howard Hughes’ aviation enterprises, in an acting capacity.
Producer George Raft
Hollywood, that “wheelbarrow full of surprises,” has come up with something new even for the citadel of filmdom- a producer who wouldn’t took at even one foot of film of his own picture.
This freak among movie moguls is George Raft who, like many another top Hollywood star, finally turns producer in his own right, in partnership with Sam Bischoff in Star Films, Inc. Their first stint, “Intrigue,” a story of sinister operations in Theatre through United Artists release.
Raft has absorbed and digested a not-to-be-sneezed-at background of production knowledge during his 17 years in front of the cameras and both Bischoff and director Edwin L. Marin found him an invaluable aid in story conferences and in helping unravel knotty production problems.
But he still preserves his actor’s tradition of never seeing himself on the screen, watched no rushes and left it entirely up to Bischoff, Marin and their production assistants to analyze cutting problems. And he still maintains, as he has on all his previous starring pictures, that he will never see the finished product on the screen.
Raft’s only explanation is the simple statement: “I know the sort of job I can do in a picture, and I know my limitations. I don’t see what I can add to my efforts by seeing these pictures. It would only make me uncomfortably self-conscious to watch myself on the screen and might hurt my future work by making me self-conscious on the set.”
There is another aspect of his work on which Raft is equally adamant. Many of his bitter arguments with studios in the past have been over scenes or bits of dialogue which he felt glorified the more ruthless aspects of the characters he played.
“Every star manages to attract a following of youngsters who think that everything in that star’s roles is worthy of emulation,” he says. “That poses a responsibility which can never be over-emphasized. The star must be careful not to allow himself to show crime or any illegal activities as attractive in any way.”
Raft points to a number of his roles in the past and shows that not only was the punishment drastic for the error of the character’s way, but that the element of good in the character always got the upper hand, turning on others and even on himself to see that right ultimately prevailed.
George Raft Now Clock-Watcher
Gone are the days when George Raft’s rugged individualism was a source of worry to assistant directors who sweated out his arriving on the set on time.
Now that George is in partnership with producer Sam Bischoff no “Intrigue,” the United Artists release coming to the King’s Theatre, he showed a novel punctilious attitude toward his daily routine.
The new metal set showed up on the first day of production when Raft had lunch in his dressing room with Bischoff and director Edwin L. Marin. Just before they attacked the soup, the star looked at his watch and warned:
“I’m giving you boys just 40 minutes to get through your lunch. With my dough in the picture, we’re going to get back on the set ahead of time and get the next shot right on schedule.”
It wasn’t that way in the old days.

記得戰前有過一部叫做「上海——冒險家的樂園」的書,那部並不是有什麼了不起的文學價值的出版物,却曾轟動一 時,完全因爲它的暴露的坦白和大胆的描寫,把外國人在上海幹的好事,販毒走私,抱着中國人都是可欺的笨伯的觀念,妄作妄爲,揭發淋漓盡致。
佐治拿夫的新作「身入虎穴」Intrigue差不多是同樣性質的東西,該片控訴的是他們的另一種罪狀——新的更大的罪 狀,囤積居奇,製造黑市。無數的小市民餓着肚皮,輾轉溝窒,他們却安享富貴,吸血自肥了。
全部以復員後的上海市爲背境, 片子的開塲我們見到佐沿拿夫是個退伍的飛行員。繼續靠飛行過他的生活。他受委托秘密載一幫寶物走私東來,在上海降著。當他發覺自己是被利用了,應護索取更大的酬報,他去找到了走私的老板,很X異的發覺那私梟原來却是個綺年玉貌的美人兒。不只入夥,平均分享利潤,並成了她的入幕之賓,結下一段孽緣。
從來有惡的地方自有善的對立。佐治拿夫在上海認識了一個善良的女人,她是國際 紅十字會的女職員。那少女的純潔給他的「飄泊的心一點眞正的溫暖。另外一個充滿正義感的是個美新聞記者,他的老朋友。他來上海的任務正爲了要揭發走私囤積和黑市操縱的黑幕。他知道佐治拿夫也是歹徒中的一個,忠言勸他洗手沒有結果,便跟他割席。
後來 那新聞記者的被暗算促使佐治拿夫的覺悟,復感于紅十字會的女朋友的服務精神,觸目皆是的一般飢餓市民的慘象,他覺悟了,身上虎穴把積存倉庫裡的粮食全部開放,讓飢餓的市民自由拿取,和私梟搏鬥,迫使他們立一張供狀。在紅十字會服務的女孩子感于他的偉大,許以終身,大團圓結局。
那樣的結局雖近乎幻想,可是對于私梟的組織,黑市造成的慘狀,却有潔刻的描寫。把動盪中的大上海的 容貌刻劃分明。是大時代的中國的一段刺激的小揷曲。
妖媚動人的珍夏和飾桂女私梟,她的陰險加上她的烟視媚行態度使她成爲 銀幕上的漂準尤物。著名歌女南溫參加演出。溫柔貞靜的嘉蓮娜卡達飾演充滿正義感的服務紅十字會裡的女郞,助演員包含湯杜里,馬雲美拉,丹西磨等。
這是一部開始以至終結也充滿了剌激的巨片。最足代表佐治拿夫的硬派作風的作品。劇情曲折動人。暴露之大 胆坦白,更爲前所未有。一切電影觀衆所不願意錯過的一部。
『身入虎穴』羅致人材全

「身入虎穴」是一部描 寫我國名城上海的片子。需要大量的中國演員,因此全部留在荷理活的中國籍演員也被搜羅參加演出去了。時我國電影女明星黎莉莉適遊美,參觀該片的拍製,負責製片兼主演的佐治拿夫慇動招待。向黎莉莉請敎了許多好意見,黎莉莉訪問各片塲,由黃宗霑作陪。
這是一部揭發黑市黑幕的巨片。幕幕觸目驚心。爲銀慕上罕見的佳構。
Menace With A Vengeance
Not since the frithtening heyday of the late Laird Cregar has the screen seen so much menace in one piece as is flashed on the screen these days by Raymong Burr.
Six foot two-and-a-half inches tall and weighing a hard-packed 235 pounds, Burr has just completed his 15th “heavy” assignment as Michelotto in Paramount’s melodramatic thriller, “Bride of Vengeance”, costarring Paulette Goddard, John Lund and MaDonald Carey.
“Bride of Vengeance” tells a racy story about the poisoning Lucretia and her powermad brother, Cesare. Michelott was Cesare’s hatchet man and probably one of the most despicable men in history, the king of man right up Burr’s alley.
Back in 1939 in Australia, Burr played his first real “heavy.” He was a sensation as walked around with his employer’s head in a box in “Night Must Fall”. “From that moment, I was doomed to play rats,” Burr says happily. Newest Heart-Throb Romantic John Lund, Now Woos Paulette.
John Lund, America’s newest heart-throb, admits his preference for “heavy”, so called “psychological parts, but because of his good looks and romantic appeal he hasn’t been given a chance to develop the heavy side of his screen personality. And from the looks of things, he never will.
Ever since his sensational debut in the dramatic triumph, “To Each His Own,” which won him instant public acclaim, Lund, under contract to Paramount, has been in demand as a romantic partner by every beauty on the lot. The handsome actor has certainly done all right by himself thus far, having played opposite Gail Russell in “Night Has a Thousand Eyes”; Jean Arthur and Marlene Dietrich in “A Foreign Affair”; Betty Hurron in “Perils of Pauline” and most recently opposite the petite new star, Wanda Hendrix in the laugh hit, “Miss Tatlock’s Millions.”
In all of those pictures Lund’s role was a straight romantic one but in his current Paramount melodrama, “Bride of Vengeance,” coming the King’s Theatre, he outdoes everything he has ever done in the way of screen amour.

In keeping with the popular demand for hard-hitting action melodrama, Columbia Pictures has produced “Mr District Attorney,” based on the radio program of the same name created by Phillips H Lord. The film, a rugged drama of six men and a girl.
According to advance reports on “Mr. District Attorney,” movie fans will find it a gripping murder mystery punch-packed with excitement and suspense.
Cast in the starring roles are Dennis O’Keefe, Adolphe Menjou, Marguerite Chapman and Michael O’Shea, while featured players include such well-known character actors as George Coulouris, Jeff Donnell, Steven Geray, Ralph Morgan and John Kellogg.
When District Attorney Craig Warren (Menjou) overhears young lawyer Steve Bennett (O’Keefe) refuse to handle the case of a dishonest client, he takes Bennett on as an assistant. They go to work in exposing the allegedly fraudulent manipulations of an organization fronted by suave James Randolph (Coulouris).
Randolph’s attractive secretary, Marcia Manning (Marguerite Chapman) agrees to help her boss by using “the woman’s touch” to keep Bennett occupied. She does her job so thoroughly that Steve falls in love with her and fails in his prosecution of Randolph in court.
In a short while, Steve quarrels with the D A. and joins forces with Randolph. But he is brought back to his senses by a startling chain of events leading to a violent climax.
From all we’ve heard about the film, the characterizations are unusually well-drawn with the entire cast coming in for high praise. Dennis O’Keefe’s is a sincere portrayal of the young awyer; Adolphe Menjou garners new raves for his hard-fighting, unselfish Mr D A.; Marguerite Chapman is brilliant in a “different” type of role. 紀元一八八五年美國之各州間鬥爭,當一大隊軍在恐怖戰鬥中被封鎖在東南兩方時,在遠西作戰人土,欲維持或截斷聯合邦之資源,這故事乃取材于不著名之西方鬥爭史及卡羅拉杜和平史。
一隊在陸軍上校歐文指揮下之軍隊,正追擊一隊筋疲力竭之同盟軍,歐文 雖目階該軍巳高舉白旗,仍置不理,且命砲兵繼續開火,以獲其全軍覆沒,歐文摯友發現白旗,大吃一驚,乃用泥掩之。

賈秘密囘鎮徵集礦工參加搶切礦務公司,彼等行刼第一 步。先搶公司之保險箱,逃亡時殺死一守衛,賈同時亦受傷,賈同時受傷,遺下手槍,因槍靶上有賈弟奈之名,奈被誣守衛之謀殺人,歐不問案情竟將奈吊死,賈知,誓爲弟復仇。
戴耳知歐文之瘋狂貪殺慾,無法挽囘,乃辭去警長職,歐益可隨心所欲,似意志爲法 律,以同謀罪欲吊死若干賈奈之友,值千鈞一髮時,戴耳率隊救其全部出險。
歐文藉安茜設圈套陷害戴耳,謂歐虐待賈羅琳,戴 因愛凱心切,乃冒險往探,終被歐所捕,並將受吊刑。
梅醫生藉口法律上需替罪犯作醫事檢查,私携手槍一支助載耳越獄,賈對 丈夫巳完全不信任,令戴坐其馬車逃奈,歐見之,乃下令追之。
戴等躲藏於榮山鎮礦工區,歐搜查數日無效,乃出毒計焚燒全鎖 ,火燄彌漫,生靈塗炭,最後歐與賈等被逼而遇歐文於火建築物下,歐欲開槍殺之,賈力哥用其老武器——子——擊落其手槍,歐被撻尖叫,如獸奉跑,毀滅於火燒建築物下。
