ESCORTS OVER TIGER HILLS
SYNOPSIS
This story is about the exchange of prisoners between the Chinese Kingdom ih the Sung Dynasty 'and the conquering Tartars.
Among the prisoners captured by the Chinese general Keng Ching (Cheng Hung) are the Tartar Prince Koh Lu Han (Lu Ching Chun) and Colonel Goh Li Toh (Chen Chiu). The Tartars suggest an exchange of prisoners and the Sung court entrust to Colonel Chiang Yao (Wang Yu) the task of escorting the Tartar prisoners back to their camp.
Keng Ching discovers that the Tartars plan to go back on their word, and that they have instructed Yuan Yen Ching (Chung Yiu) to ambush Chiang Yao and his party en route. Keng Ching sends for the retired guerilla leader Ching Wu Chi (Chiao Hung) asking him to help Chiang Yao. Hearing wind of the Sung army's preparations, Yuan Yen Ching sends his foster daughter, Wan Yen Wan Erh (Hilda Chou Hsuan) and heixChmaji Yiu Lin, to spy on Ching's movements.
On the journey Chiang and his party are invited to spend the night at the house of a man impersonating a Sung patriot. The men is a Tartar, Ching Tuan. In the fight that ensues Chiang Yao is killed. The duty of escorting the Tartar prisoners now fall on Ching.
Wan Yen Wan Erh now decides to change sides and help Ching. She is his former wife, and her love for him is stronger than her loyalty to the Tartars.
When the mission is completed a victorious but sad Ching mourns the deathh of Wan Erh, whom he realises too late that he has always loved.
