“THE GOLDEN BEAUTY”

—The Story—

Kim Lulu is young, vivavious and beautiful; she is jealously guarded by her foster mother, Mrs. Kim, as a potential gold mine.

One day, Mrs. Kim discovers Lulu to have gone out boating and fishing with Chang, a personal young man without any property. Mrs. Kim with her ‘friend’, Moh Hung, persues by another boat. Unfortunately, it capsizes, and they are spilled into the sea. They are rescued by young Chien Tse-chiu and his friend Hua-hsiung who as Mrs. Kim soon finds out, are the manager and sub-manager of a big shipping company.

The next day, Mrs. Kim invites Tze-chiu to their home for dinner. While she waits, many creditors come to seek payment of their bills with great persistence. Then young Chang also comes to intrude himself on them. Quickly utilyzing Chang's chequebook, Mrs. Kim is able to put the creditors off with as many rubber cheques. Afterwards, when Tze-chiu show up Mrs. Kim tries many strategems to get rid of Chang but all to no avail.

Next Sunday, they all go out for a picnic. It is a beautiful day, yet Mrs. Kim is unhappy as Chang simply monopolizes Lulu’s attention. After a while, Chang cheats Tze-chiu out of 6000 dollars and departs in a hurry,

But the next day he shows up again to invite Lulu to join him on a spree with his booty. Unfortunately for him, there are more than ever creditors waiting at Kim’s home, many of them angry over the rubber cheques. They gang on Chang, forcibly extract the 6000 dollars from him and are still unsatisfied. When Tze-chiu arrives, Mrs. Kim and Moh and Chang have to palm all the creditors on him to save their own skins.

When Lulu begins to like the simple and shy Tze-chiu, Mrs. Kim, true to form, tries to hold them up to obtain more money. However, she reverses her stand and encourages the marriage when Lulu falls off a galloping horse and faces serious desablement.

Surprisingly, Lulu gets completely well just when Mrs. Kim discovers Tze-chiu only a small shareholder of the shipping company and no millionaire. After consulting Moh, they decided on a scheme to fleece Tze-chiu of all his money before breaking off their attachment. Both Chang and another personable young ‘Millionaire’, Mr. Fong, are used in the scheme, and soon they succeed in extracting 50000 dollars while inducing a bitter quarrel between Lulu and Tze-chiu.

However, Mrs. Kim overestimates the influence of her corrupted way of life over Lulu. When Moh doublecrosses Mrs. Kim makes a quick grab on both the 50000 dollars and their gold mine—Lulu in his escape, Lulu turns on the both of them. After a most exciting and hilarious running fight between all characters of this story, Lulu and Tze-chiu finally succeed in getting back the money and into each other's arms.
