陳永霞，湖北姑娘，曾獲全國劍術冠軍，今年才21歳。在萬千個候選人中，脫穎而出。當知道導演決定讓她演苗翠花時，驚喜交集，幾天都睡不好覺。喜的是獲得一個好機會，但內心却是終日惶惑。她還沒有結婚，連一個親密的男友也沒有，却要去演一個相夫敎子的賢妻良母，的確是相當困難的。幸好導演楊帆——過去是紅極一時的名小生，從演員做到導演，很快就把她引渡到一條正確的演員道上。

能武，還要能文，武打演員除了有眞功夫之外，還要特别注意身段美，所以她每天除了練功之外，還追隨名師學習芭蕾舞，使文武配合，達到真、善、美境界。

Chen Yongxia, a 21-year-old girl from Hubei Province, is a former All-China swordsmanship champion. She was selected from thousands of candidates for the leading female role. When she learned that the Directors had decided to give her the coveted role of Miao Cuihua, she was alarmed and happy at the same time and was unable to sleep well for a couple of nights. She was happy because it was a great opportunity. But she was also worried because of the tremendous difficulty for her — a young maiden who has not even started dating a boy — to play the role of a dutiful wife and loving mother and to reproduce how she gave advice to her husband and taught her son. Fortunately, Director Yang Fan, a household name in his days as an actor playing the roles of young men before turning a director, quickly guided her on the right course.

To play the role, an actress not only has to be highly achieved in real martial arts, but must also be graceful. Therefore, apart from taking her routine martial arts drilling, Chen Yongxia also followed a famous instr-uctor to learn ballet. This helped her to combine martial arts with ballet techniques in an effort to attain the level of truth, goodness and beauty.
