“SPRING BLUES”
SYNOPSIS
In preparation for a performance at a night party in the coming graduation ceremony, “Rickshaw” Wong Yee Chet is rehearsing an opera with Miss Chung Fung Yee. He courts the love of the girl, but is greatly disappointed.
Miss Chung Fung Yee has received a letter from her father in Singapore, telling her of his intention to marry her to an unacquainted youth. Naturally she protests. But her father threatens to stop her financial support, if she does not consent to the proposed marriage. Urged by the gravity of the situation, she writes to her father to say that she has been married, supporting the fact by attaching a photograph of a wedding scene of the opera in which she is married to “Rickshaw” But, in another telegram, her aunt is coming to see her. She is afraid that her Aunt might smell a rat and is very sad about it.
The schoolmates plan to stage a fake show for her. “Rickshaw” will play the part of husband; Kong, of father-in-law; Chung Yee Man, of the chauffeur; Leng Yurk Lan and Kwok Ching Fun,of maidservants. Leung's House is to be “Rickshaw“s” house. All Agree to this arrangement.
The Aunt has come, but, due to her shortsightedness, has not detected anything. The welcome dinner party proves a mess.
“Rickshaw” takes advantage of the situation, and threatens noncooperation if Chung Fung Yee does not accept his love. Meanwhile, the “fake family” is topsy-turvy, as the “chauffeur” and “maidservants” show insubordination, and the “chauffeur” goes so far as to quarrel with the old mistress.
The Aunt begins to suspect, “Rickshaw” now courts the Aunt who dare not accept his love but tells Fung Yee about it. Fung Yee, however, is glad about this new development.
“Rickshaw”,being disappointed in love, discloses the whole plot. In so doing, he wins the favour of the Aunt. There is no necessity for staging the show any more.
At the graduation night party, the Aunt takes part in the opera which proves to be a success. There comes the happy ending.
