THE IRON FIST
(Synopsis)
Police detective Yang Hung (Chiao Hung) hurriedly departs from Singapore for Japan to ferret out the murderer of his benefactor-friend. The only clue the baffled Japanese police can produce is a woman’s hand-bag. From the bag Yang fetches out a voucher and a woman’s photo. Somehow Yang believes that it is the picture of Black Peony, the victim’s fiancee. But she, too, has disappeared and only recently.
Continuing his almost aimless pursuit, Yang luckily spots singer Anna Lee (Yeh Fung) who matches the photo at a nightclub in Hongkong. Learning that someone is looking for her, she beats a frightened retreat and vanishes into the hall. Intercepting him in the track of his wild-goose-chase, a man named Lei Chian insists on having a secret talk with him. At Yang’s hotel, the intruder offers him a phony address of Black Peony.
From gangster B (Ma Li), Yang learns that Big Boss Hsiao (Wu Chia-hsiang) is the ring-leader of a suspected triad society. He then requests to have a talk with Hsiao.
When Yang manages to sneak into Anna Lee’s apartment and shows her the voucher he has secured from the bag, Anna urges him to get out of Hongkong right away, or Black Peony would be in grave danger. Just as when he is pressing for the whereabouts of Black Peony, Hsiao’s henchmen break into the spot and demand Yang to surrender to them at gun point the voucher that Hsiao has been desperately searching for. But Yang flees to the roof unscathed.
The ensuing gun duel sends the sleeping neighborhood into commotion. And at the sound of an alarm whistle, the gangsters scram off. Yang thanks Anna on returning to her bedroom for blowing the whistle.
The following day, Anna phones Yang to meet Hsiao in a restaurant. Leaving the voucher to the custody of a hotel servant, Yang meets Hsiao at the rendezvous. He promises to surrender the voucher on the condition of meeting Black Peony even just once.
Hsiao orders woman-gangster Fang Li-hung (Wang Lai) to impersonate Black Peony only to be chagrined at the fact that Yang, seeing through the trick, forcibly takes Fang away. Unable to resist Anna’s persuasion, Hsiao confesses that the voucher shows the location of a cache for narcotic drugs he and the victim jointly owned.
But Yang is fooled by the second impersonator, Anna Lee, sister of Black Peony. He surrenders the voucher but he’s beaten up. Recovering from the initial shock, he rescues Anna who, on hearing of her sister’s death, swears to join hands with Yang in their fight to destroy the gangsters.
