'INSPECTRESS GENERAL'
(Synopsis)
Tang Chun-an (Leung Hsing-po), suspected of engaging in extramarital activities, is being constantly henpecked by his wife (Tan Lan-hing). Their son, Chi-hao (Lin Ka-sing), about to be wedded, comes to an agreement with his bride-to-be, Shu Hsiu-ling (Christine Pai Lu-ming), that if their marriage is to succeed, they must live in harmony and not lead the cat-and-dog life his parents are doing.
Therefore, after marriage, in order to spare Hsiu-ling from unnecessary worries, Chi-hao keeps his own counsel in all matters that do not directly affect his young wife. Hsiu-ling, on the other hand, tries to show every consideration for her husband. What is still lacking between them, however, is a perfect understanding and sincerity. Which fact gives rise to one misunderstanding after another. Nothing serious at the beginning, but misunderstanding nevertheless.
Then, one day, Chi-hao receives word from Macao that his old flame, Chu Li-yi (Chan Hao-gau), is coming to Hongkong to meet her fiance, Chang Shu-hung (Lei Ming), from Singapore. And could she stay in his house for the duration of her visit ?
Lest his wife might know about his past romance with Li-yi, Chi-hao arranges for his friend, Tu-Li-wen (Chiang Kwang-chao), to meet her at the ferry wharf on her arrival and to bring her from there straight to a hotel. But instead of doing as told, Li-wen spoils everything for Chi-hao. Or almost. Anyway, Hsiu-ling gets to hear of Li-yi. This plus the strange behaviour of her husband immediately raises suspicion in her mind.
After that, one thing leads to another. And before long, the matter becomes so complicated as to implicate not only Chi-hao's father, but also the boss of the firm in which Chi-hao is employed. Naturally, the three wives band together to do something about their "errant” husbands.
Under the circumstances, Chi-hao is compelled to ask Li-yi to come around to the house for a visit so as to clarify matters. Somehow his plan back-fires. And Li-yi is very nearly lynched by the angry wives when she shows up.
Fortunately for all concerned, Li-yi's fiance, Chang Shu-hung, finally arrives from Singapore. And in the nick of time, too, before more serious damage is done.
