FATHER TAKES A BRIDE
(Synopsis)
On a crowded bus, Wang Ching-hui (Lucilla Yu Ming) bumps into her old schoolmate Sun Chuan (Lei Chen) and brings him home to meet her widowed father, Wang Hung-shen (Wang Yin), a middle school teacher, and her two younger brothers, Ching-fang (Teng Hsiao-yu) and Ching-cheng (Teng Hsiao-chou).
Ching-hui, a bright girl, gives up schooling to look after her brothers. The father, grieved by the loss of his spouse, is reluctant to marry again, but finds consolation from his friendship with his colleague, Li Chiu-huai (Wang Lai).
It does not take long for Ching-hui and Sun Chuan to fall in love, and this pleases the father and gives him the notion of marrying again. But when Ching-hui learns that her father has a girl friend, she is furious and refuses to have her invited to the house for dinner. Unwilling to start a row in a happy family on her account, Chiu-huai quits school and goes somewhere else.
Meanwhile, Sun Chuan, who is now deeply attached to Ching-hui, promises to marry her and support her younger brothers. Fearing that this might ruin his future, she rejects him, lying that she has a millionaire suitor.
When Ching-hui calls at a school to ask for a teaching job, she finds that Chiu-huai is one of the teachers there. She therefore gets the job through the latter’s help.
After overcoming her brothers’ objection to their father’s remarrying plans, Ching-hui promises them she would not marry as long as she has to take care of them.
When Sun Chuan learns from the two boys the truth about their sister, he rushes out to see her.
By now, both the father and the daughter are in love. However, this turn of events upsets the boys. Innocently, they go to their mother’s grave without the knowledge of anybody, to cry to their hearts’ content. At nightfall, the gatemen of the cemetery close the gates, and the two boys find themselves locked up inside the dark graveyard.
Their disappearance causes quite a big stir, but ends up with happiness for all.
