PRIVATE EYES

A SYNOPSIS

Joseph Wong (Michael Hui), the king pin of the Manix Private Detective Agency, is a firm believer in tact and thrift. By tact, he means you can cheat all the people all the time and corners are there to be cut. By thrift, he means an underpaid staff is a happy and grateful staff, as it can be testified by his secretary Jackie (Agee Chiu) and Pighead (Ricky Hui).

Young Lee Kwok Kit (Samuel Hui) has manoeuvered him into a jobless spot. Out of desperation, he offers himself to be a Manix operative. Wong turns him down flat. But Wong relents and hires him only after the young man recovers a wallet for Wong. Or is it a recovery at all?

A leading theatre is being blackmailed for $300,000. The manager chooses to hire Wong instead of going to police.

The private eyes now go to a supermarket to stop shoplifters. Kwok Kit gets his man after a hilarious fight. But real culprit turns out to be a pregnant lady who is carrying everything but a baby under her maternity dress.

The next case is to tail the young wife of a rich businessman to get evidence of adultery. In a motel for lovers, Wong and Kwok Kit test out a leaky waterbed and a leakproof bathtub. Still they get the lovers photographed in a compromising position.

Wong and Kwok Kit go to the theatre to continue the blackmail investigation. Halfway through the show, the movie goes off and the lights come on. Scores of gun-toting hoods hold the more than 1,000 goers as hostage. Uncle Gaw (Shek Kin) goes on stage to announce that it is a hold-up. He says nobody will get hurt if they surrender everything into his deposit bags. Wong finds himself on stage playing Russian roulette with Uncle Gaw. But Kwok Kit manages to slip out.

Uncle Gaw and his gansters leave the theatre in style. They climb onto a stolen ice cream truck only to be driven straight away to the police station by Kwok Kit who has stolen it from the robbers.

Kwok Kit is a hero. With the price money, he starts a private detective agency of his own. But when Wong comes out of hospital, the two decide to work together, or, as the case is, starve together.

　　萬能私家偵探社社長王若思（許冠文飾）旣古惑，又孤寒。以低薪僱用女秘書積琪（趙雅芝飾）及雞泡（許冠英飾）二人。

　　有汽水廠職員李國傑（許冠傑飾），因失職被辭，見偵探社招人廣吿，前往應徵；王社長初嫌其條件不合，未予錄用，其後見李智擒打荷包之小偸，大爲讚賞，便僱用之。

　　某大戲院得打單信，索三十萬元，經理未報警，恐事洩影响票房，惟暗中請王社長偵查。

　　超級市塲老闆娘莫太，因常有高賣顧客光臨，亦請王社長偵查，終獲一僞裝孕婦，搜出大批用品及食物。

　　另有巨商周錦富，疑妻與人有染，亦委托王暗中察訪；王若思與李國傑，拍檔暗查周妻行踪，終見周妻與情夫吳警長（吳耀漢飾）進一豪華别墅幽會，盡悉其秘。

　　王李兩人某夕復入戲院偵查打單案，忽見電影驟然中斷，燈火盡明，歹徒數十人分佈戲院四處，賊首九叔（石堅飾）更率馬仔數人，登台亮相，喝令全院觀衆，盡献隨身財物，一時人心惶惶，王若思亦被困座上，計無所出，幸其拍檔李國傑溜出院外，伺機行事。

　　衆賊旣得手，按照預定計劃：紛紛攀登偸得之大雪糕車鬆人；幸李國傑機警，已暗伏車上，擊倒賊黨司機，駕車直駛警署而去，衆賊扮蟹，無一倖免。

　　李建奇功，獲得巨獎，王李從此合作，擴充偵探社，大開拳脚焉。
