THE CONTRACT
(A Synopsis)
The contract is a piece of almost blank paper by which MTV binds all its employees to eight years of impecunious service. Chi-Man (Michael Hui), an aspiring but frustrated artist, hates the contract since he is given no chance of getting ahead. He constantly thinks of moving to greener pastures.
His brother Chi-Ying (Ricky Hui) is a self-made investor who has just come up with a laugh bomb.
By chance, Chi-Man pinch hits as compere of a Cat TV program. With the aid of the laughbomb, he becomes an instant success. But he cannot sign up with Cat TV because of the MTV contract.
He is turned down cold when he asks MTV for cancellation of the contract. Therefore, the brothers try to steal it only to have Chi-Ying shut into the safe and Chi-Man chased by the burly guards.
Chi-Man goes to young magician Sai-Kit (Samuel Hui) for help. As Sai-Kit’s sister Ling Ling is Chi-Ying’s girl friends, Sai-Kit promises to open the safe, also clandestinely.
What follows is too hilariously confusing to detail. Any way, Chi-Man unwittingly proves his talent and is invited by MTV to be its manager.
He refuses to sign the contract which again is a piece of almost blank paper.
