"A FISHERMAN'S HONOUR"
THE STORY
Monopolist and rich owner of a large fishing fleet, old man Koo is most powerful figure on island inhabited by fisherfolk. Despite his son's objections, he agrees to give Huang Ta (Tao Chin) credit-a radical departure from his usual rapacity.
As fishermen celebrate their safe return, three-times - married Mrs. Liang Chiu-sao attempts to borrow money from son of Koo-her husband's employer. She fails and is insulted. When Huang Ta takes her part, a fight almost starts, but the advent of Huang's mother and childhood neighbour and friend, “Sister” Chiu (Li Li-hua), sees Huang going home with them.
In love with Huang Ta, "Sister" Chiu tends his injuries when he is knocked down by Koo's ruffians. Her small brother arrives and tells them that Huang's mother is critically ill.
At home, his mother tells him how old man Koo, his father's usurious creditor, was responsible for the latter's death. As she dies, she urges her son to seek revenge. This he swears to do.
Drunk, Huang vows revenge in a restaurant and the news is conveyed to the old man, who hastens to seek his friendship. Huang agrees to serve on one of the old man's ships as the latter is taking a trip to sea and there is a chance to avenge his father.
At sea, he is prevented from killing the old man by the code of the sea, which makes all fishermen fight the storm together. Revenge is forgotten in the tempest and, instead, Huang rescues the old man from a watery grave.
Back on land, the old man gives a banquet and goes to fetch Huang to fill the seat of the guest of honour. But Huang, with no tempest to fight, gets his revenge. The old man is killed and his body falls over the cliff, from which Huang's father threw himself.
Huang is hidden by Mrs. Liang, but, in a fit of jealous passion, “ Sister ” Chiu reveals his whereabouts to old man's son and he is cornered.
Too late, “Sister” Chiu realises what she has done, but Huang, ready to die, is given fisherman's justice: tied in a sack, he is thrown into the sea.
Appalled by loss of her brother at sea and Huang's death, "Sister" Chiu walks into the waves- never to return,
