“FROM HERE TO ETERNITY”
("秋雨春心")
——The story——
After the death of Chow Pak-kuan, the livelihood of his family, comprising his wife, his elder daughter Tsui-yiok, son Chow Kong, and younger daughter Tsui-san to work it out among themselves in order to look after their aged and sick mother. Foremost, Tsui-yiok has to take up much of the responsibility. After seeing off her lover Chan Chi-fei to Australia for business training, Tsui-yiok confidently expects to get an ideal job, but she fails. Chow Kong insists that they must face their future more realistically from now on; he’s prepared to find work while studying. He proposes to make use of his father’s old car to pick up students going to school and make a living out of it. Tsui-san is opposed to all these, for fear it’ll cause her to lose face among her schoolmates. Having been influenced by bad elements, especially a young rowdy Michael, she’s crazy only about pop music and dancing. Michael tries to hoodwink her into believing he’s organizing a pop music group, when actuall his motive is sinister.
Tsui-yiok finally lands a small job with a tourist agency, and although Manager Shin Wai-lum pays her a more-than-average salary, she still finds it difficult to upkeep her family. Finally, in spite of Tsui-san’s opposition, one of their rooms is sublet to a taxi driver Lui Shong and his family - wife and daughter. Lui is a good, jolly fellow, always ready and willing to help others.
Meantime, Tsui-san has faked her sisters signature and written to Chan asking for financial help, to which Chan responded with allowances, not knowing the truth. When one day Tsur-yiok is instructed to send some luggage belonging to a passenger Sung-ya, she comes to the Villa of a Madame Ha, who shows a great liking in her and wants to engage her as her private secretary-in reality Mme. Ha is a woman of questionable character, she’s employing Tsui-yiok with a view to make use of her to induce her many male guests. One night she almost falls prey to Sung-ya; and when her brother Chow Kong comes to her rescue, he’s beaten up by Mme Ha’s bodyguard Lau Piu.
Since then Tsuitiok’s out of job, but her former Manager Siu constantly comes to console her and keeps her company. On the other hand, Tsui-san continues to fall for Michael, resulting in Chow Kong’s old car being towed away by the police when he tries to locate her. Luckily, Chow Kong get much help from Lui and his buddies, who help to make Chow Kong become a taxi driver also.
Knowing she’s now on the spot, Tsui-san decides to leave the home, and through Michael and then through Lau Piu, she, too, becomes a tool of Mme Ha’s money-making machine. By now Manager Siu’s good behavior is convincing that when he tells Tsuiyio he is going to get her a high-salaried job, she believes him and follows him to a private mansion. Chan has returned from Australia and is disappointed when he fails to find Tsui-yiok - it’s only at this time that together with Chow Kong they discovor Tsui-san has gone away.
Tsui-san is engaged as a singer at at Mme Ha’s villa, but soon enough she learns that Mme Ha’s only interested to introduce her to one of his male guests for a profit, and she is more furious when she overhears that Mme Ha has planned to bring Tsui-yiok to a private mansion where Sung-ya’s to rape her. It’s now clear that even this Manager Siu is himself nothing but a double-faced cheat, in league with Mme Ha and her gang.
The time is approaching zero hour as Chan, Chow Kong and Lui and his buddies first suceed in rescuing Tsui-san, and then together they rush to the private mansion where they arrive in time to save Tsui-yiok from being assaulted. There is a happy reunion for Tsuiyiok and Chan, and Tsui-san also pledges to live a new life-with the help of Lui and his good buddies, the family finally finds a new life, too.
