LOVE’S MIRACLE.
Synopsis.
Lo and Chu are two friendly families living together in the same house. The two old couples, being heads of the two families, have once been very friendly to each other, but due to some petty differences, they quarrel and become deadly enemies. They seperate the house they shared with a fence, and severe all contacts - even contacts between any relatives of the two families are strictly prohibited.
Ta Ming, Lo's son, returns home after finished his education from abroad. His bed room faces that of Yu Hwa, daughter of the Chu’s. This rather remote but constant contact ignites the hidden flames of Love harboured within the hearts of this youthful couple. Ta Ming is then invited by his old schoolmate Ting Chi to portray the loving role of Romeo in the amateur Shakesperian play he stage, and during the rehearsal, Ta Ming is surprised to meet Yu Hwa who portrays the role of Julliette in the same play, From now on, their love matures into deeper reality.
The brother of old Chu's wife comes from the country, also staying in Chu's house, and eventually falls in love with the old spinster auntie of Lo's family. The two old love mates also meet each other in the adjacent verandah where the young couple used to meet, and on one occasion when the old and young couples meet in the same spot, they become comrades. They try jointly to exert their best effort to bring the two antagonistic family heads to amicable terms in order to facilitate their own loving purpose.
Though they have succeded to bring the two old couples together in their friendly gestures, much to their disappointment, the old fight once again revives when they sit together to start a majohn game. This makes the situation even worse than before, but on the other hand, the love understanding between their son and daughter has edged into further intimacy. Meanwhile the old couples of the two arrogant families still press hard to seperate their son and daughter by seeking matrimonial affiliations with their approved families.
One day both families stage two seperate banquet parties in two big hotel restaurant establishments for the purpose of introducing their son and daughter to their prospective son-in-law and daughter-in-law and their family members. To cope with such an unfavourable situation, Ta Ming and Yu Hwa are armed with their secret mutual understanding that during the party, Ta Ming will portray a good-for-nothing freakish playboy, and Yu Hwa, a senseless dumb girl. Their unbecoming appearances shock all the family members old Chu and Lo invited: The two banquet parties thus end in a sad and distressing failure.
The two enraged old couples scold their son and daughter, for their disobedience, resulting in Ta Ming and Yu Hwa both ran away from their families and committed suicide. When the sad news is conveyed to the two old couples by Ting Chi, the parents of the two are brought to the house where the young couple commilted suicide; they find their son and daughter there already lying dead. They all try to rush to the dead bodies of their son and daughter, but the police and doctor present stop them from approaching near.
Tin read the joint last will of Ta Ming and Yu Hwa to their parents, stating that la Ming and Yu Hwa had wished their union to be ractified by their parents even after their death. Both the old Chus and Los are deeply touched and commit their consent in weeping tears. But when all these are done, the two corpses rise again, and to the extreme ectasy of all, they have discovered that all are but a well rehearsed and staged dramatic play.
