SLEEPING BEAUTY

（Synopsis）

Wu Yi-cheng （Lai Chen） works for a tourist agency in Hongkong. As his meagre income is insufficient to make both ends meet, he often has to ask his colleague, Chang Chih-teh （Wang Chung）, for help. Yi-cheng is sometimes late for work, and the general manager, Mr. Wang （Wu Chia Hsiang）, is just waiting for an opportunity to fire him.

Yi-cheng has a snobbish aunt Wu Lan （Liu Hsi Meng）, whose husband, Lo Shih-yuan （Liu En Chia）, is a typical mercenary merchant, and whose daughter, Lo Yu-lin （Lin Hui）, is vain and narrow-minded. To them Yi-cheng turns for support whenever he loses his job.

One day Yi-cheng picks up a painting of a sleeping beauty from a heap of debris in his neighbourhood. To his astonishment, the sleeping beauty jumps out of the frame and presents herself as Mei-mei （Yeh Fung） and offers to help him. The following day, he finds that his wardrobe is full of expensive clothes and a large bundle of banknotes. He realises that the sleeping beauty possesses magic power.

With Mei-mei's assistance, Yi-cheng moves into a new house and becomes an assistant manager of the tourist agency. The people around him all try to court his favour. He is married to Mei-mei in Macao shortly afterwards. Returning from Macao, Yi-cheng presents her as the seventh daughter of a rich Kung family.

Meanwhile, Yu-lin, filled with hatred for the new couple, meets Kung Man-jo （Dora Ting）, the bona fide sixth daughter of the Kungs, and learns from her that she has no younger sister. She invites Man-jo to her birthday party with the intention of embarrassing Mei-mei. Mei- mei, however, sees through the plot and wrecks it. By accident the picture is lost and Mei-mei loses her magic power thereby.

With Mei-mei unable to help him, Yi-cheng runs into financial X. Encouraged by his aunt, Yi-cheng wooes the beautiful Man-xxxxx thus to return to the world of riches. He gives a party at X home to celebrate Man-jo’s birthday. Seriously ill, Mei-mei X to the party and accuses Yi-cheng of being ungrateful to her. By there accident the picture is found and Mei-mei instantly becomes her original brilliant self. She punishes the ungrateful Yi-cheng accordingly. When Yi-cheng finally comes to his senses, there is some consolation left for him and perhaps a new hope.
