Fighting With Python Monster
In the mid-autumn festival, King Yung-ping of Sung and his family are having a feast in his garden to enjoy the moonlight. The king gives his daughter a pair of embroidered shoes as a present to commemorate the family gathering. Suddenly the moon is covered by dark clouds, and a whirlwind arises; a python monster appears in the garden and seizes away the princess.
Meanwhile, a young hunter, Shih Yih, who lives in the suburb, sees a strange cloud in the sky, and he discharges a bullet at it, whereupon a precious embroidered shoe drops from the air. He knows the monster has done great calamities to his native people, so he goes alone to the mountains with a view to getting rid of the monster.
Shih Yih’s adopted brother, Wong Yan, also goes to the mountains in order to share the reward offered by the king to kill the monster.
In the cave, the monster forces the princess to marry him, but she stubbonly refuses. In the critical moment, Shih Yih, holding a sword in his hand, enters the cave. He fights the monster and kills him. The brave act wins the heart of the princess, who gives him a pearl and agrees to marry him.
They begin to climb out of the cave. Wong Yan. who happens to be at the mouth of the cave, pulls the princess out. Being fascinated by the princess’s beauty, he grows a wicked mind, so he escorts her to his father immediately, leaving Shih Yih still trapped in the cave.
The king is very pleased to see his daughter having escaped danger, but becomes distressed by the ceaseless claim from Wong Yan, who pretends to be the hero and asks for the princess to be his wife as he has been previously promised.
The king asks his daughter for her opinion. The princess, who does not know the suiter has been falsified, expresses she has agreed to marry the brave hunter who has saved her life.
When the wedding is taking place, suddenly Shih Yih appears, and so the true fact is disclosed. Wong Yan is arrested, and Shih Yih and the princess marry at last.
