—THE STORY—
Ling Lien-ying works hard to support her aged mother and her sister Lien-ming, who is also studying music with the father of her schoolmate Ai-wen. Meanwhile, Lien-ying declines the request of her lover, Chang Sin-yi's request to marry him before he is transferred to another port on the ground that her responsibility towards her sister has not finished yet.
Lien-ming scores in a musical contest and meets Pan Chiu-ping, a seemingly cultured young man, during a celebration party. She is immediately fascinated by Pan's looks, sincerity and talents, all very emerging on the surface.
That night, Lien-ying has no idea why her sister Lien-ming cannot sleep—she doesn't know that her kid sister has a boy friend for the first time in her life.
Actually Pan is a good-for-nothing humbug. With his honeyed words and superficial affection he has already induced a school girl Liu Mei-ling into living with him. While not wanting to be her lawful husband, Pan forces Mei-ling to become a taxi dancer in order to support him. When Mei-ling refuses to give him money with which Pan will keep a date with Lien-ming, Pan makes a deal with a slavemonger, hoodlum Ho Ta-toh and borrows the money from him instead. Ho is satisfied when Pan brings him to have a look at lien-ming, who, up to now, does not know the danger she is in.
Lien-ming has had many secret dates with Pan, even at the expense of her studies. Lien-ying tries to stop her but of no avail. During their mother's birthday, Lien-ming finally brings Pan to meet her folks, and every one else in the party seems convinced Pan is a "good boy".
Mei-ling faints one day in the street and when Lien-ying happens to lend her a hand, they are surprised to learn they were schoolmates before. When Lien-ying sees her home, Pan hides himself up in the bathroom—but Lien-ying soon learns all about his infamous secrets.
Pan decides to sell Mei-ling first to Ho, then goes on with his second scheme on Lien-ming, who has by now refused to listen to all her sister, Lien-ying's good counsels. The two sisters even qnarrel.
At her engagement party with Chang Sin-yi, Lien-ying is told that Lien-ming is missing. She rushes to put the blame on Pan, who still pretends to know anything. But Lien-ming suddenly appears and when Lian-ying slaps her, the former vows never to return home. Lien-ming agrees to go to Macao with Pan, but they are napped in time, when Mei-ling appears in a rugged and bruised appearance, pointing at Pan's treachery. Lien-ming realises how wrong she has been and disappears in the confusion.
Fearing that Lien-ming might have tried to end it all by taking her own life, Lien-ying rushes out to look for her—patiently she calls out her name and there in the very midst of a heavy fog, the two sisters are reunited, tightly holding each other in tears pledging never to be separated by anybody or anything again!
