Interviewee: Yung Wai Yip

Mr. Yung Wai Yip was born in 1955 and is a third-generation Christian. Mr. Yung attended St. Paul's Co-educational College and graduated from Waterloo University (Canada). Mr. Yung joined the Fellowship of Evangelical Students (Hong Kong) in 1978 and was the general secretary for many years. Since 2008, Mr. Yung has been with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, serving as the vice-general president until 2016. Mr. Fung was the founding member of Hong Kong Link in the 1980s during his study in UK. He then joined the Hong Kong Affairs Society in 1983 and served as an overseas liaison officer for the organization, as well as working with Breakthrough magazine.
In the interview, Mr. Yung introduced his early years as a third-generation Christian and the Christian atmosphere of his family. He then shared his working experience in the Fellowship of Evangelical Students (FES), Hong Kong, from 1978 to 1985 and 1991 to 2000. He reminisced on how people met, and on significant events he participated in during his service. He analyzed the changing roles of FES in promoting Christian social participation. He recalled how overseas Hong Kong students organized themselves to support democratic movements in Hong Kong. Mr. Yung also recalled theological ideas that guided his social participation in different stages.
