Dr. Wong Wai Ching was born in 1959 and graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the South East Asia Graduate School of Theology. She then received her masters and doctoral degrees in the University of Chicago, USA. Dr. Wong participated in the formation of the Student Christian Movement of Hong Kong in 1981 and the Hong Kong Women Christian Council in 1988. She also worked in the Hong Kong Christian Industrial Committee under the supervision of Mr. Lau Chin Shek. Dr. Wong now serves as a vice president for Christian Higher Education in Asia Programs, United Board, where she focuses her studies on feminist theology and gender studies.


In the interview, Dr. Wong introduced how she converted to the Christian faith when she was a secondary four student. She was deeply impressed by the religious activities of the church, which have a strong emphasis on addressing community needs. Dr. Wong recalled her experience of active involvement in the Student Christian Movement, Hong Kong, as a founding member. She also shared her working experience in the Hong Kong Christian Industrial Committee under the supervision of Mr. Lau Chin Shek. Dr. Wong reflected on her academic journey and her shift of concern to feminist theology and gender studies. She recollected her role in founding the Hong Kong Women Christian Council.
