Dr. Wong Pik Wan was born in 1959. She attended Kowloon True Light School and graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Afterwards, Dr. Wong obtained her doctoral degree in the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Wong became a teacher in The Church of Christ in China Kung Lee College for two years as her first job. She then joined the Hong Kong Christian Council in 1984 and the Hong Kong Christian Institute in 1988, working under the supervision of Rev. Kwok Nai Wang. Dr. Wong was also the founding member of the Hong Kong Women Christian Council in 1988. She formerly served as a member of the Joint Committee on the Promotion of Democratic Government, the president of Hong Kong Christian Institute, and the Hong Kong Women Christian Council in 1988. Dr. Wong’s social participation started in the 1980s with her petitioning for direct election in 1988. She is currently a member of the Democratic Party (Hong Kong) and has served as a Legislative Council member since 2012.


The interview covers Dr. Wong’s social participations since the 1980s. She recalled her religious experience in secondary school as a conservative Christian and described her change in religious attitude when she studied at Chinese University of Hong Kong. She shared her social participation experiences in the Hong Kong Christian Council (1984-1988) and later in the Hong Kong Christian Institute (1988-1991). Dr. Wong recounted her experience in The Joint Committee on the Promotion of Democratic Government and the path of her political career, especially her experience as a member in the Legislative Council (2012 to now).
