Interviewee: Wu Chi Wai

Rev. Wu Chi Wai was born in 1956. He attended the Salesian School and graduated from Evangel Seminary. After graduation, Rev. Wu began to serve in Yuen Kei Alliance Church, Yuen Long. Because he considered church and society to be inseparable, he promoted different activities under the mission of “community church”, such as study rooms and a promotion of family campaign, among others. Since 2008 he has served as the general secretary of the Hong Kong Church Renewal Movement. Rev. Wu participated in developing many project, such as the new towns development, church-planting, and the July 1 procession.
The interview covers Rev. Wu’s experiences growing up and his conversion to Christianity. Then, Rev. Wu shared with us about his pastoral experience in Yuen Kei Alliance Church, Yuen Long. He became an active participant in the “community church” movement of the 1980s. He shared how the community church idea promoted social and political awareness of local congregations in the 1980s. Rev. Wu became the successor of Rev. Yu Wai Kan in serving as the general secretary of the Hong Kong Church Renewal Movement in 2008. Rev. Wu also shared the guiding religious principles of his social involvement.
