Interviewee: Tso Man King

Rev. Tso Man King was born in 1938 and attended Cheung Chau Government Secondary School, Clementi Secondary School, Grantham College of Education, and received degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (BA), Wesley Theological Seminary (MDiv) and Howard University (PhD). Rev. Tso lived in the U.S. for a long period of time, during which he served as a minister of the United Methodist Church in the USA. Afterwards, Dr. Tso returned to Hong Kong and became the general secretary of the Hong Kong Christian Council (1990-1998). He also served as the doctoral advisor of Lutheran Theological Seminary in Hong Kong. After retirement, Rev. Tso established the Dance with Depression Association. Rev. Tso now serves as the director of the Hong Kong Counseling and Meditation Service.
Rev. Tso recalled his early life and the influence of his father’s pastoral ministry. Rev. Tso’s experience of studying at Howard University gave him sensitivity about social justice for minority groups. He was also aware of the complexity of social relationship between different local communities. He shared how his experience of social participation in the United States helped him to handle the challenges of his ministry in Hong Kong, when he was the general secretary of the Hong Kong Christian Council from 1990 to 1997. Rev. Tso also shared about his retirement life and his service as counsellor and mediator.
