Li Sook Kit 李淑潔

Miss Li Sook Kit was born in Hong Kong and later moved to Canada for high school and university studies. She returned to Hong Kong in the 1980s. Miss Li first joined Breakthrough in 1973 as a volunteer and became an overseas liaison officer of the organization. Miss Li then returned to Breakthrough in 1978 and began to serve as a counselor. Miss Li has spent her entire working life with Breakthrough and the organization has expanded under her leadership, with one example being the construction of Breakthrough Youth Village. Miss Li also has used her counseling skills while serving as a voluntary counselor in the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.


Ms. Li recalled her childhood memories in Shum Shui Po as a child of a private school headmaster. She described the life of the lower class in the 1950s. She shared about her secondary school life and experience of joining in the FES activities. She reflected that she came across different political and cultural views in her young age. She shared her religious revival experience in Canada and how the experience planted in her a heart for China. She recalled her important encounter with the founder of Breakthrough magazine, Josephine So Yan Pui, and how it has changed her whole life. She introduced her lifelong service in Breakthrough, including the founding of Breakthrough Youth Village. Ms. Li shared her observation of the transitional period of Hong Kong, and how the changes affected the youth work of the Breakthrough organization.
