Rev. Fung Chi Wood was born in 1956 and graduated from the University of Hong Kong and the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Rev. Fung revived the Student Christian Movement of Hong Kong in 1981. He was also eager to participate in the shelving of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, becoming the convenor and spokesman of the “Joint Conference for the Shelving of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant” in 1986. He played a main role in this endeavor, collecting one hundred and forty thousand signatures for the opposition and submitting them to the Beijing Authority. Those events were the beginning of Rev. Fung’s political journey. In 1988 Rev. Fung was elected as the District Board member of Shatin and in 1991 he became a Legislative Council member. Rev. Fung has continued his participation in social movements again in recent years, such as his involvement in “Occupy Central with Love and Peace” in 2013.


Rev. Fung introduced how he actively joined his church’s activities as a second-generation Christian. He shared his experience as a member of the Christian Association (CA) of HKU and the evangelical influence in CA. He then recalled his involvement in reviving the Student Christian Movement, Hong Kong, in 1981 and also his experience of studying theology at CUHK. Rev. Fung shared his participation in the Anti-Daya Bay nuclear power plant campaign, and how he changed from the opposition of construction to the monitoring of plant’s operation. Rev. Fung also recalled his experience of political participation in the District Board and in the Legislative Council. Rev. Fung reflected on how his pastoral and personal beliefs guide his social participation and pastoral ministry.
