To study materialistic values of Hong Kong adolescents.

Subjects
A convenience sample of 281 secondary school students 11 to 20 years old.
Methodology
- A survey based on a structured questionnaire was conducted.
- Data on the subjects’ materialistic values, family communication pattern, peer influence, family and peer communication, social comparison and media usage was collected.
- Materialism was measured by a shortened six-item version of Richins and Dawson’s (1992) scale and the Youth Materialism Scale.
