The Documentary Film in India - Interviews

These interview transcripts are part of the Hong Kong government funded project on ‘The Documentary Film in India (1948-1975)’ (GRF 12402314). This project’s research methodology combines the empirical study of interviews, archival documents, secondary sources (film journals etc.) with in-depth textual analysis of films.

These 24 interviews have been conducted in India and elsewhere between January 2015 and February 2016 with 24 important Indian documentary film scholars, filmmakers, and professionals working for public and private organisations involved in the production, distribution and exhibition of documentary films in India.

Their first-hand and personal insights provide exclusive and rare oral testimonies on the lesser-known history of the documentary film in India.
